Cologne Cathedral: The city's most iconic landmark, the Kölner Dom (Cologne Cathedral), took over 600 years to complete. It's one of the largest cathedrals in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site. At its completion in 1880, it was the tallest building in the world. 2. Carnival Capital: Cologne is known for its vibrant and massive carnival celebrations, particularly the "Karneval" season that starts on November 11 at 11:11 a.m. and culminates in a week-long party in February. It's often called the "fifth season" in Cologne, and thousands dress in elaborate costumes and take part in parades and parties. 3. Eau de Cologne: The city gave the world "Eau de Cologne," a light perfume that originated in the 18th century. The scent was created by Johann Maria Farina, and today, you can still visit the original Farina House, which is now a museum. 4. Roman Roots: Cologne is one of Germany’s oldest cities, founded by the Romans in 38 BC as "Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium." It served as a key military base and trading hub in the Roman Empire, and many Roman artifacts are still present in the city, including the Roman-Germanic Museum. 5. Brewed Culture: Cologne is famous for its local beer called Kölsch, a pale, top-fermented beer that is served in distinctive small glasses called "Stange." By law, only breweries in and around Cologne can produce this type of beer. The city’s pub culture, centered around Kölsch, is an integral part of the local social life. Cologne's mix of history, culture, and tradition makes it one of Germany's most interesting cities!
