Everyday there is a new Business story, like below from Boardroom, involving College Sports. This explosion of opportunity for collegiate athletes is something that I feel like could realistically be described as UNPRECEDENTED. From Caleb Williams to Caitlin Clark, from Shedeur Sanders to Livvy Dunne, from Bronny James to Angel Reese, many athletes are capitalizing on this new market in a big way. Amazing people & entrepreneurs like Jordan Rogers are consulting and helping athletes react and thrive in this new world. Agents and lawyers are getting involved to broker and advise 6-7 digit business deals. For Sports Business students and classes - - What is next for NIL? Is it a bubble that could burst? What are the opportunities for athletes outside of the 10-20 "most valuable"? What are some future careers or roles that are needed in this new "industry" or "sector" of college sports? I’ve enjoyed competition as a measure of self-progress, but don’t have a lot of time/energy for awards and accolades. I haven’t entered a design/admark competition willingly since 1997. I didn’t walk at college graduation. I’ve cheered on and celebrated those who do, but it’s not for me. While I’ve shouldered my share of individual tasks, most of my most satisfying accomplishments happened when I brought others along. This comes to mind when I see the bigger agencies flooding their feeds with the sunny shores Cannes or some far off financial boondoggle that involves 1-2% of the organization while the majority pull the plows back in the fields. At levels, all of these socializations are important, necessary, but it takes a lot of planning and organizational insight to balance the reward and harm of these spectacles. How do you engage the other 98%? I think maybe Walmart does it best with how they intend rotate employees into major events and involving people across the organization. It’s a least a good attempt. How does your organization handle awards and accolades?

About two weeks ago, I attended the National Society of Black Engineers 2024 national convention with a goal to interact with seasoned professionals, learn from global leaders and immerse in an atmosphere of winners. As I was not job-hunting, I had the opportunity to attend many seminars/ workshop sessions, some of which include: • Unwritten rules of Corporate America • How AI will impact the workforce • Leading with Purpose • Navigating our way to Technical Leadership • There’s no traffic when you create your own lane These were inspiring sessions, not just due to the information shared, but due to the quality of people and mindsets I shared the room with. Amongst the many treasures I gained from the NSBE convention was the statement “Take the hard assignments”. I heard a senior vice president say it, I heard a director say it, I heard a chief engineer say it, I heard a mid-career engineer say it. It dawned on me, more than ever before, that the surest path to career growth and success is by constantly challenging yourself and picking up those projects that majority will run from. The NSBE National convention, which attracted over 15000 students and professionals is more than a platform to land your dream job. It is also a convergence of winners and world changers to encourage one another, sharpen skillsets, learn and grow in various facets for continued impact. Truly, we grow ourselves to grow others.
