Did you know that half of people who watch streaming services have actually done something because of an ad they saw during a pause? A new report says "pause ads" could be a powerful tool for advertisers. These are the ads that show up when you hit pause to grab a snack or take a quick break. The streaming video/CTV doom loop continues. No profitability - higher prices - more advertising - less spending on original production/less new quality content - fewer viewers - go back to start. From the advertiser's point of view this will lead to consolidation, less choice, less competition, lacking innovation in advertiser-facing products, higher ad prices.

It’s interesting that viewers are moving towards free, ad-supported streaming rather than subscription-based, ad-free viewing, (a recent LG Ad Solutions survey said 69% of those polled chose ad-supported streaming). Is this because viewers are increasingly happy watching content in an advertising environment, or is this a symptom of the cost of living crisis? Either way, a number of those viewers who choose to pay to avoid advertising are wealthier viewers, exactly the type of consumer that brands want to reach.
