Circular Economy With the new exploration, innovation and investment taking place in the Geo-Resources sectors in Cornwall implementing circular economy, sustainability and responsible sourcing is vital to the success of the associated industries and companies involved. The United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS) is a comprehensive framework that integrates sustainability into global resource management practices. It provides a principles-based and structured approach for governments, industries, and communities to manage natural resources efficiently, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement. UNRMS emphasises transparency, equity, and sustainability across all stages of resource management, from extraction to consumption. By adopting UNRMS, stakeholders can ensure that resource use contributes to economic growth, environmental protection, and social well-being, fostering a balanced and sustainable future. Dr. Alexey Alekseenko, Head of the Resource Nexus Laboratory for Post-Mining Inclusive Transition (REPOINT), prepares the ground for the pan-African training on landscape restoration together with G20 Global Land Initiative and Land Rehabilitation Society of Southern Africa (LaRSSA). The organizers are committed to tackling a global challenge: how can we transform post-mining legacies into valuable assets rather than liabilities in order to achieve the SDGs? Tailoring land-use decisions to the specific material and resource demands of each former mining area is crucial. There is no imperative instruction on how to recreate a biome, but it is the top-priority question of how to meet the demands of the community and how not to deteriorate the resource base in its widest sense. In essence, the #ResourceNexus approach doesn't prioritize transforming minescapes into “green” or “blue” areas for its own sake. Rather, the management plan is deemed successful if a barren area can be repurposed into an energy facility, transport hub, warehouse, etc. This approach ensures the conservation of resources by favoring brownfield development over greenfield expansion.

The transformative potential of the #LobitoCorridor! This project is set to revolutionize Africa's economic landscape by connecting vital mining regions to sea routes, unlocking opportunities for small businesses, and driving local economic growth. The Lobito Corridor railway project primarily focuses on freight transport, particularly for moving minerals and commodities from mines to ports for export. While the primary purpose is to facilitate the transportation of goods, there may be provisions for passenger rail services along certain sections of the corridor in the future. However, the primary emphasis of the project is on establishing an efficient freight transportation network to support economic growth and development in the region for the time being. With a focus on transportation, critical minerals, and agribusiness, the Corridor is poised to become a key driver of sustainable development in the heart of the continent.
