“A human sustainability perspective is grounded in a few simple principles: The people connected to your organization have the power to affect it in important ways. Your organization has the power to affect each of them. And by understanding and creating value for each other, your organization and its people can improve business, work, and life for everyone.” #recruitment #wellbeing

Integrating sustainability into corporate culture 🌎 Integrating sustainability into corporate culture is essential to advance ambitious targets and fulfill the objectives set in the strategy. Sustainability requires the support and commitment of the entire business, necessitating a unified approach that permeates all levels and functions. Embedding sustainability into the core strategy ensures that it shapes long-term goals and influences the company’s foundational values. This approach positions sustainability not just as a compliance requirement but as a driver of strategic decisions across the organization. Distributing sustainability responsibilities throughout the organization is key to ensuring that all employees are engaged and accountable. This structural empowerment fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility among staff, which is crucial for sustaining efforts and achieving company-wide goals. Integrating sustainability practices into everyday business operations and culture cements these concepts in the organizational fabric. Making sustainability a default mode of operation ensures it is consistently considered in daily decision-making and activities. Process optimization is necessary for effective sustainability management. Developing robust processes for data collection and resource management enhances transparency and provides the data needed for informed decision-making. This enables continuous improvement and helps align sustainability initiatives with business performance. Finally, leveraging human resources to champion sustainability is critical. Through targeted recruitment, training, and reward systems that incentivize sustainable behavior, companies can cultivate a workforce that is not only aware of but actively involved in sustainability efforts. Through these measures, companies can ensure that sustainability is deeply integrated into their culture, driving both internal alignment and external competitive advantage. #sustainability #sustainable #business #esg #climatechange #climateaction #sdgs #impact

Many corporate sustainability programs start with the Chief HR/People/DEI Officer. Below are a few tips when you're pitching this leader. What would you add? - Bring articles with data about employees wanting to work for a company seen as sustainable. Google “Fast Company millennials pay cut sustainability.” That’s a winner. - Poll a group of employees and ask them how much sustainability matters to them. Bring that data to your meeting. You can get even more specific data by organizing a sustainability event, like a park clean-up, and telling your people leader how much employees care about sustainability. - A competitive assessment helps. If your people leader learns about the sustainability programs at other companies in your industry, companies against which you are competing for talent, then they will have a business case to push for a sustainability program. #hr #people #climate #employeeengagement
