Did you know? 🤔 For the first time since before Texas CASA’s founding 35 years ago, the state is updating how it pays for foster care services through Texas Child-Centered Care. The goal is to improve outcomes for children in foster care, including those in Community-Based Care areas, while recognizing + compensating caregivers for delivering high-quality services. Help us support local CASA programs face these transitions with the support, training and tools necessary to succeed: bit.ly/FosterCareMonth24

Fostering and the growth of Families Fostering is more than providing a temporary home for children in need; it's about creating a nurturing environment where both children and families can grow and thrive together. The Impact of Fostering on Families: - Strengthening Family Bonds: Fostering encourages families to come together, working as a team to provide a loving and supportive home for children. - Teaching Empathy and Compassion: Welcoming a foster child into your home teaches family members, especially children, the values of empathy, compassion, and understanding. - Building Lifelong Connections: Many foster families form lasting bonds with the children they care for, creating extended family networks that can last a lifetime. At Black Foster Carers Alliance, we are here to support you on your fostering journey. We offer comprehensive training, resources, and ongoing support to ensure that both you and the children in your care thrive. If you're ready to open your heart and home to a child in need, reach out to us today. Together, we can foster not only the growth of children but the growth of families, creating stronger, more compassionate communities. #fosteringgoals #fostercare #culturalcompetency

Why? When asked, the most common answer given by foster parents who have chosen not to continue fostering is lack of support. And truly, we get it. The work of stepping into the gap to parent someone else's children (while fighting a system with its fair share of struggles) is not for the faint of heart, it takes a Village. Foster Village bridges this gap between those experiencing foster care and those who want to help, meeting practical needs and providing holistic support beyond the system. By caring for the caregivers and mobilizing an engaged community, we empower generations of vulnerable children and families to overcome adversity. Away from their own home, a foster child always remains under the supervision of the Dept. of Health and Human Services. Because of this, a worker from the DHHS will make regular visits to all foster families. These visits act as a layer of support and safety for both the foster parents and for the child. During these check-ins, parents are expected to address any challenges they’ve encountered during the placement so far. The worker can then use this information to make decisions, provide resources to the family, or, if necessary, find a new placement for the child. If a family needs help, the DHHS will do what they can to provide it. Because when a family thrives, the child in their care is set up for success. May is Foster Care Awareness Month, an opportunity to advocate for the needs of children in care and empower them to reach their full potential. It's about ensuring they have access to essential services, educational opportunities, and the support they need to thrive. By investing in their well-being and development, we invest in the future of our communities. There are many ways to get involved and make a difference during Foster Care Awareness Month and beyond: •Support Foster Families: Offer assistance, encouragement, and resources to foster families in your community. •Advocate for Policy Changes: Advocate for policies that improve the foster care system and support children and families in need. •Volunteer: Volunteer your time with organizations that support children and youth in foster care, such as mentoring programs or advocacy groups. Let's honor the dedication of foster families and professionals who work tirelessly to make a positive difference in their lives. Together, we can build a brighter future for every child, ensuring they grow up in safe, loving, and supportive environments. #FosterCareAwarenessMonth #CelebrateFosterFamilies #EmpowerTheFuture

This National Foster Care Month, we're exploring strategic actions that can help our communities care for children and families before, during, and beyond foster care. Today, we're diving into what's working in family preservation---keeping families together before foster care is even necessary. But even as we discuss what it takes to prevent foster care, we want to ground ourselves in the reality that this work is both/and, not either/or.
