🗳 We spoke to trans and intersex leaders from around the world to get global perspectives on the importance of the EU Elections for trans people and our allies 🗳 Obioma Chukwuike (They/Them) from Intersex Nigeria said: 💬 "My dear friends in Europe, It’s important that intersex and non-binary people across Europe express their choice in the upcoming EU elections. As a vulnerable group, we must make our voices heard. Elections are one the major determinants and mediums of choosing who will support our struggle as a community. 💬 Coming from a continent where the votes of the people sometimes don’t reflect the mass's choice and vulnerable groups are sometimes disenfranchised from voting, I encourage intersex persons and non-binary people to make their voices count in the upcoming EU election. One vote can change the outcome!” 🇪🇺🏳️⚧️The crucial vote is just a few days away. #UseYourVote in the European Elections. 🗳 6-9 June 2024, take the opportunity to shape the future of European democracy. The #EP2024 elections start today and end on Sunday. We've brought together analysis from across 🇪🇺 and the Atlantic to look at what the results will mean for a broad range of issues - like #AI, #ForeignPolicy, #GenderEquality, and fighting #ClimateChange. Drew Mitnick and Zora S. wrote about how the #EP2024 elections are a litmus test for internet regulation - new regulations and advances in AI are squaring off. Brussels expert Filipe Henriques looked at the advance of the far right and what progressives, across party lines, need to do to protect democracy and human rights at the European level. Béla Galgóczi explained how unions and collective bargaining need to play a bigger role in fighting #ClimateChange during the next EU legislative period. And there's so much more - questions like how Europe would respond to an isolationist 🇺🇸, policy needs for gender equality, #Eurovision, and the economy are all covered! https://lnkd.in/eu63jHav

9. June 2024 European Elections/Go vote against Populists&Fascism and any other of "Putin's useful Idiots". This game changing elections will significantly influence about nothing less than: the future of our European Democracy, the military Security of Ukraine&Europe and, the possibility to transfer away from the fossil fuel based society - the Green Deal. Thus please, go voting. #usefulidiots, #psychologicalwarfare And tell your family and friends. Thank you. 🙏 🍀 "In Italy and Hungary, the ruling far-right parties led by Giorgia Meloni and Viktor Orbán have repeatedly introduced and implemented policies against LGBTQ+ rights, using anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric to gain votes and surge to power. The rise in far-right influence domestically and the fact that it is expected to bring about a shift in representation also in Brussels and Strasbourg should serve as a “wake-up call” for EU policymakers, the authors of the report said. They also added that the consequences of this year’s elections could be “far-reaching”, also influencing major policies such as the EU’s Green Deal and impacting crucial areas such as migration, EU enlargement and support for Ukraine."

Elections and political change have meant a period busier than most for anyone working in EU affairs. Summer holidays will be very welcome this year! While campaigning for the European Parliament elections happens in every corner of the European Union, this was my first time experiencing the elections from Brussels. Changes to the European Parliament and the Commission have been a feature of most conversations and many events since the beginning of 2024. This “front row seat” has deepened my appreciation for the processes that drive our democratic European Union. Those processes can be complex, negotiations are intense, and compromises need to be found. Yet they are testament to democracy at work. For our part it was a privilege to be able to contribute through a program of activities that included our work to preserve election integrity and encourage people to vote, advocating for gender equality in politics and convening open discussions about the EU’s next five years. We see it as our role to support democracy and we will continue to do so throughout the EU. With batteries recharged over the break, I will return very optimistic for the next months. The impact of our recently announced large scale investments throughout Europe - including supporting companies to innovate and grow and helping people to learn digital skills – will take shape. Hopefully we can contribute to Europes competitiveness. Here in Brussels we look forward to working with the new European Parliament and European Commission for the next five years - helping to empower people across the Union. I wish you all a relaxing summer break!
