As an event professional, I typically steer clear of political discussions here on LinkedIn. However, it's essential to recognize the importance of creating events that are both enticing and welcoming to everyone. Given the current global political landscape, we must consider the comfort and safety of attendees when choosing event locations, whether they be cities, states, or countries. While this article focuses on the LGBTQ+ community, it's a reminder that we should always strive to be inclusive across a broad spectrum. Partnering with your DEIB teams can help identify preferred locations, and tools like ChatGPT can assist in narrowing down your list by providing valuable insights. Let's work together to make our events as inclusive and welcoming as possible for all.

Islamic leaders in Malaysia are calling for the cancellation of #EdSheeran’s upcoming concert in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 24, citing the singer’s support for the LGBTQ community as a primary concern. The Islamist party PAS and the Penang mufti argue that allowing the concert to proceed before the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan is insensitive and could promote a culture of hedonism and perversion in the country. This opposition is not unprecedented, as PAS has previously protested against concerts by Western artists who endorse LGBTQ rights. Last November, the party also demanded the cancellation of Coldplay’s concert in Malaysia. Analysts suggest that PAS’ stance serves a dual purpose: to exploit ethnoreligious issues to polarize the nation and undermine the current government, while also appealing to its conservative voter base. Despite these calls for cancellation, the government has not yet responded. However, a local government minister from the DAP party has voiced support for Ed Sheeran's concert, asserting that the government welcomes the singer and his fans. The minister emphasized that PAS should not impose its views on others. 📰 Link: https://lnkd.in/g7Fi5p6X #TheLinQFoundation #LGBTQrights #Malaysia #GovernmentResponse

CEO & Founder at Investing in Ethnicity, British LGBT and Ethnicity Awards | Addressing under-representation | Transforming Workplaces | Driving Ethnic Inclusion | Awarded MBE for D&I
Happy Pride season everyone - spreading love not hate! We are launching #PridePurposeProgress at British LGBT Awards this year. Here is my pledge, that I'm sticking with for a successful Pride... 1. Spread love, peace and positivity Let's try! We are in a tough world right now, so anything less than treating people with respect and kindness is pretty shameful! 2. Be inclusive We may all have different views or be on different parts of many journeys, but we can influence progress better by working together. 3. Ignore the haters and especially cancel culture Hate is not effective in creating progress. Our community is continuously fighting, and now each other more than ever. We are destroying ourselves and our common goals!! Time to change all that. 4. Listen to learn We can all broaden our perspectives, understand difference, and different view points, and maybe learn something new on the way. Times are ever evolving and this is the only way we will catch up. 5. Work together Build networks. The sum of the parts and all that... Find people who share common goals and work with them - you might disagree on certain bits, but that is diversity of thought at its best. Feel free to share your own... The #PridePurposeProgress campaign launches this month, let me know if you want to get involved. We will be celebrating the hard work and what we've achieved by doing all of the above. #pride #Pridemonth
