Could #HappyHour return to #Massachusetts? What do you think about the idea? If a provision of the Senate's omnibus Economic Development legislation survives an upcoming conference committee, it could soon be on the Governor's desk. Many bars and restaurants don't love the idea, since customers come for the cheap drink and don't buy much else. It ends up being a race to the bottom in pricing, too. Then, of course, is the risk of overserving in a short amount of time. But, Massachusetts - Boston, especially - is not exactly known for its social scene. With people moving out of the Commonwealth at higher rates, would a social policy like this retain young residents? We doubt you're deciding to stay or go based on $1 draft beer, but is it at least a helpful policy? Have thoughts on the issue? Want to know how to advocate or share your thoughts? Contact us today, we'd love to hear from you! #alcohol #happyhour #beer #cocktails #thcgroup

New Post: Dr. Pepper overtakes Pepsi as America’s second-most popular soft drink - https://lnkd.in/ddwwgvwa - Coca-Coca reigns supreme, but there's a new number 2: Dr. Pepper, which has overtaken Pepsi as America's second-most popular fizzy fix. The Wall Street Journal registers it as a "tie" but the chart speaks for itself, tracing an ongoing decline in Pepsi's popularity and the inexorable rise not only of the good doctor but Sprite too. — Read the rest The post Dr. Pepper overtakes Pepsi as America's second-most popular soft drink appeared first on Boing Boing. - #news #business #world -------------------------------------------------- Download: Stupid Simple CMS - https://lnkd.in/g4y9XFgR -------------------------------------------------- or download at SourceForge - https://lnkd.in/gNqB7dnp

Will the ACCC vs Coles and Woolworths case really be a ‘win’ for consumers? This week the ACCC has announced legal action against Coles and Woolworths over allegations of misleading advertising and “illusory discounts” on more than 500 products (combined). The evidence gathered by the ACCC is apparently substantial. But it really just confirms what most of us who do the weekly food shopping have known for a long time – price gouging does occur. And, many might agree that calling the big two supermarkets to account is long overdue, particularly in light of the Parliamentary Inquiry earlier this year. Misleading and manipulative Of course both the supermarket giants could face hefty fines (estimated in the millions of dollars) if they are proven to have breached laws. But let’s also remember that they both make billions of dollars each year in profits. Time and again, in circumstances similar to these, after findings of wrong-doing, substantial fines are imposed on large corporations, but the fines, in comparison to their annual profits, amount to nothing more than a ‘slap on the wrist’ or ‘the cost of doing business’. So are these fines truly effective as punitive action? Or are they effective in encouraging transparency, accountability and fairness? It’s debatable… Because while mandatory codes of conduct and associated penalties 'look good', especially from a political standpoint, typically it is the consumers who end up paying (at the checkout) for additional layers of corporate compliance. The courts will determine whether laws and regulations have been broken here – but there is also a question of morality, and the ethics inherent in these companies’ relationships with, and obligations to, their customers. Cost of living crisis aside, these are Australia’s leading suppliers of food. And food is a basic necessity. Nothing changes, if nothing changes Maybe it is time we thought about doing things differently. At the Garden Gate supports micro-makers and micro-growers. We’re all about putting food production, distribution and supply back in the hands of local communities, by creating more shopping choices, and supporting consumers who want to shop more consciously, by helping them to connect directly with growers and makers. This is not just about ‘feeling good’ and knowing where your food comes from, paying a little less, or buying straight from the grower … The significant and positive onflow effect of encouraging more people to grow and make and sell has an impact on decreasing food miles, reducing unnecessary packaging, creating food equity, and over the long term, generating more food diversity and long-term food security. Does your business have multiple locations? Did you know you can set up separate Facebook page for each geographic location while maintaining a main page which automatically shares posts to all locations? This allows people to better find your stores, check in, rate and follow the location nearest to them. You can accurately post different addresses and hours of operations to each location. This is what we did with Manning Farm Dairy who own 5 stores. Their main page has over 14,000 followers while their individual locations each hold between 1,000 and 5,000 followers. https://lnkd.in/d77KYMUv

Cannot stop thinking about the Detroit People's Food Co-op since I first learned about it. An except from the Facebook post that enlightened me: "What is a food coop? A food co-op is a grocery store that’s owned by its member/owners as opposed to a grocery store such as Kroger or Meijer which has corporate ownership or an independent grocery store owned by a family or individual. In a food co-op members have a role in shaping the store culture, operations, and product standards. Detroit People’s Food Co-op is democratically controlled by its member/owners. Each member/owner can only purchase one ownership share and has one vote. Although food co-ops, like all businesses, must have revenues that exceed operating costs if they are to be sustainable, food co-ops prioritize community well-being over making profits for member/owners." https://lnkd.in/e3epEDRi

Food Systems Dietitian Transforming Cafeterias & Communities | Member of the Austin-Travis Co Food Policy Board | Public Health Practioner
Exciting news for Austin! 🎉 Earlier this month, the Austin-Travis County Food Plan was passed by the Austin City Council, marking a major milestone for our community's health, equity, and sustainability. This comprehensive plan is the result of extensive collaboration between local government, food system leaders, advocates, and residents, all working together to create a resilient food system that benefits everyone. The plan sets 9 ambitious goals that address every aspect of our food system—from how and where food is grown, to how it reaches our plates, and what happens when food is wasted. As part of the "Institutions" goal, I'm honored to be quoted in the plan on page 44, where I highlight Lake Travis ISD's participation in the Center for Good Food Purchasing's #GoodFoodPurchasingProgram. I’m so proud of the collective effort that went into shaping this important roadmap for our region’s future, and grateful for the amazing food system leaders in our community I've built and deepened relationships with along the way. Special shoutout to: Edwin Marty, Amanda Rohlich, MPA, Sergio Torres-Peralta, Angela Baucom, Hallie Casey, Diego DiVerde, Justin Lanier, Jarred Maxwell, my fellow Austin-Travis County Food Policy Board Members Joi Chevalier, Lisa Barden, Andrea Abel, Beth Corbett, Kacey Hanson, Larry Franklin, Natalie S. Poulos, PhD, RD, LD, Rosamaria Murillo, PhD, LMSW, Mark Bethell, Hilda Gutiérrez, MA SHRM-CP, Andy Smith, Matt Simon, and many more! The plan will soon head to the County Commissioners Court later this month for further approval. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue working towards a healthy, equitable, and sustainable food system! Red, White, and Black: An Oregon Wine Story. "The purpose of Red White & Black is to highlight those people who are deeply entrenched, have their livelihood on the line but somehow are missed by the press and not often included openly in the larger Oregon wine community. This is to tell the story of what life is like, what hurdles, acceptances, challenges, and opportunities exist." - Bertony Faustin, proprietor of Abbey Creek Vineyard This documentary and the people behind it opened our eyes. It was a catalyst. >>>We wondered: If this is happening in wine-- Where else is it occurring? Was it prevalent in all food? Short answer: Yes. The fastest growing early and emerging mid-market food businesses are Diverse-Owned. Oh, BTW, investment in Diverse-Owned food companies could add $1.3T (that's Trillion with a T, y'all) to our GDP in the next 10 years. Dang, we thought. That's big. Small Food is about to be REALLY BIG. What if we could we amplify voices, shed light on thriving communities, and remove barriers to success across the food industry through software? That'd be pretty cool. So we did. We built SaaS for food. Tools that don't feel like Tools. They. Just. Work. Barriers removed. Achievement unlocked! >>>What are you going to do to help Small Food reach its potential for greatness? #tomorrowisnationalwineday #supportsmallbusiness #smallbusinessSaturdayiseveryday #GetPollinate #SaaSforFood
