In their new Forefront article, Esther Krofah, Morgan Hanger, Sally Okun, and Barbara E. Bierer from the Milken Institute, The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and Brigham and Women's Hospital argue that the time is now to align on a shared plan of action as a country to achieve diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in US clinical trials. "This lack of representativeness in clinical trials limits our scientific knowledge of the safety and efficacy of medical products and interventions for certain populations. Furthermore, low trial participation by underrepresented patient groups limits access to the latest scientific advances for these groups, as clinical trials are increasingly part of clinical care, particularly for oncology. The discrepancy in trial participation thus further widens existing gaps in quality of care. In this article, we explain the need for a national action plan to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in US clinical trials. We outline such a plan, and we issue a call to action to all stakeholders to make progress on the goals and action steps presented below." Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/3UBmIRi

Improving #IBD care is also done by sharing best practice and improving IBD research units. BIRD - Belgian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research and Development
👌Building the perfect IBD clinical research unit: first questionnaire for HCPs We’re excited to invite you to take part in a new BIRD initiative, part of KU Leuven master's student Leonie Govaerts’ thesis under supervision of Prof. Dr. Bram Verstockt and Ingrid Arijs. Dedicated clinical research units are key to improving data quality, expanding research opportunities, and enhancing patient outcomes. This project aims to identify the resources needed and hurdles faced by BIRD centres in establishing optimal IBD clinical research units in academic and non-academic settings. Participating means that you are willing to complete 2 or 3 questionnaires, with one person per stakeholder group per unit contributing. In this first round you will be asked to complete this questionnaire containing multiple and some open questions. Based on the responses of the first round, a second round will be developed where you will be asked to rate the importance of a series of quality indicators. ❓Are you interested? Complete the first questionnaire before February 15th, by clicking the link provided below: English: https://lnkd.in/ewjpcfc4 French: https://lnkd.in/eBy7NFbU More information about this project can be found on the website of BIRD (https://lnkd.in/esypsi3g). Questions? Contact: leonie.govaerts@birdgroup.be (with ingrid.arijs@birdgroup.be in cc) Thank you for helping us strengthen Belgian IBD research!
