👉 Pellucid marginal corneal degeneration (PMCD) is a bilateral, noninflammatory, peripheral corneal thinning disease. 👉 It is characterized by peripheral thinning, usually in the inferior cornea. 👉 The ectatic zone, which is 1-2 mm from the limbus, lies above the point of the maximum corneal thinning. 👉 Usually associated with high degrees of against-the-rule astigmatism and low degrees of myopia. 👉 Can be treated by Intrastromal Corneal Ring Segments (ICRS) and has good postoperative results.

Myth: Patients with Anorectal Malformation are at an increased risk for Hirschsprung disease. Reality: The association of anorectal malformation and Hirschsprung disease is exceedingly rare. Patients with anorectal malformation are at high risk for constipation, which is frequently confused with Hirschsprung disease. When a true combination of both diseases is present, it is very unfortunate for the patient, because he/she will be fecally incontinent for life. How is environmental-friendly control of the Lyme disease vector possible? Although not directly obvious from the wonderful collaboration with Bronislava Víchová, we learned that the parasitic wasp that kills Ixodes ricinus (Lyme disease vector) also survives and propagates in Haemaphysalis concinna, and maybe even Dermacentor ticks (non-Lyme disease vectors). https://lnkd.in/etJFAw4G
