This is great to see demystified. As someone who survived a sudden cardiac arrest whilst out cycling https://lnkd.in/eWdchvfK, most people hear of remarkable recoveries believing that a stent is all that’s needed. Maybe when you’ve had a heart attack and the narrowing has been opened up but if you’ve had a cardiac arrest as a result of an unexplainable heart disease and therefore electrical problems, no known gene mutations and a healthy lifestyle, faulty electrical problems are a constant threat for the rest of your life. I’m living with an ICD and a Pacemaker and now deal with the complications of having these devices installed. I’ve had an SVC obstruction, device extraction https://lnkd.in/eBuMghnW, ablation https://lnkd.in/eK_Sf72Y, and what is possibly pacemaker syndrome from a device installed due to AV block caused by short term Amioderone https://lnkd.in/eN8dC__K I’ve suffered with neck and chest pain, heavy legs for over 12 months. I’m always trying to look long term into the future but heart disease is more than a physical condition and restriction, it’s a mental challenge. I’m lucky to be alive I get it, but know that very little is still known about why this has happened and what can be done to improve it. It’s now a game of risk management, through greatly reduced exercise and beta blocker drugs and a safety net via my inbuilt defibrillator. Heart disease is cruel. Being fit and healthy doesn’t guarantee you anything in life. Do something you enjoy and find rewarding. Focus on what you can do and not on what you cannot. And know that there’s a difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest 👍

Such a little-known fact (in my time at the British Heart Foundation it was consistently reported on wrongly in the media, even when I had used the correct term in press releases.) One thing I should say is that a heart attack can lead to a cardiac arrest. But they are not one and the same. Anyway, share share share, and also if you've not had CPR training (if it has been a while and you need to refresh your memory) check out the BHF's resources online. It really is the most important life-saving skill you can learn. #RestartAHeart #CPR #HeartAttack #CardiacArrest #LifeSaving #FirstAid
