"This routinization of AI that doesn’t simply talk with us, but also acts out in the world, is a crossing of the blood-brain barrier between digital and analog, bits and atoms. That should give us pause." Jonathan Zittrain on the looming bot crisis:

Every time you publicly post a solution to a problem online you either: 1. Help others solve the same problem. 2. Delay the inevitable rise of AI overlords with incorrect information fed into the model. Either way, you're doing your part for society🌞🥂

Business and Career Development Coach for Lawyers | Former Harvard Law School Advisor | 25-Year Big Law Partner
If you're not familiar with Jonathan Zittrain, professor at Harvard Law School, Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Harvard Kennedy School, and Director of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society and the HLS Library---- then you're missing something. If you're trying (aren't we all?) to understand and adapt to the massive, exciting, hopeful, and alarming changes wrought by AI (the "ineluctable modality of..." what?), then add him to your list of big brains and read what he has to say--this Atlantic article in particular. Zittrain's book titles say it all: “The Future of the Internet—And How to Stop It,” and the sequel-in-progress, “Well, We Tried.”
AI developments are coming so quickly that it can be hard to discern which of them matter, or how they all connect. It’s like that definition of “history”: one damned thing after another. While companies continue their relentless stream of announcements and deployments, there are many thoughtful and talented people focused on critical issues ranging from bias to various definitions of safety. I’ve been thinking (and teaching) about these issues – and trying to contemplate the “unknown unknowns” of these transformative technologies. Advances in AI – including generative AI – are soon to be bolted into our digital and network infrastructure in ways that could be deeply regrettable and yet are not covered by much of the talk around risk. The public sector is currently so understandably tied up with immediate fire drills, it's hard to see around corners and help shape frontier developments like "agentics," which could have society-shaking effects. The Atlantic piece below talks about agent-based AI, its risks, and what we might do about them. It also serves as a preview of a new book, where I try to offer a picture of how humanity is both gaining power and losing control with the rise of the next wave of technology. More soon -- and thoughts welcome! https://lnkd.in/ec4UJy-V

A firm I came accross made bold claims about using AI for trading bot creation and made even bolder claims that they would evolve Artificial General Intelligence within their project within 5 years. The reality was that the so called bots were actually discretionary traders and that none of the automated bots worked. Even so performance was dismal. Its an extreme example but the microcosm reflects the macrocosm. The quant industry like a Ferrari Enzo body kit with a Trabant underneath. Chat GPT has not advanced us significantly to machine sentience. We are as far away as we ever were and still have no idea how to emulate conciousness and real intelligence. The quant trading industry can't even effectively deploy the tools that are already in our grasp as they are not well suited for financial price series which are nosiy, unstructured, low dimensional and exhibit multi level non stationarity. #thehedgefundmirage #fakequant #theemperorhasnoclothes

Head of Technology Platform & Processes @ Maersk Logistics & Services | Real Estate & Startup Investor | Always looking for interesting small businesses
Ever thought about what information is online about you? The progression of AI has raised concerns about the weaponization of personal information online. It is crucial for everyone to consider ways to minimize their online presence and safeguard their personal data. By taking steps to get as much information offline as possible, people can protect themselves from potential misuse or exploitation of their personal demographic (think beyond just names, numbers, and location) information. It is important to be proactive and mindful of the potential risks associated with the increasing influence of AI in our lives. You think spam calls are bad now - just wait to AI bots make these calls and sound just like real people.

This is a fresh and fascinating talk with the three regulators determining the shape of the USA #Data, #AI and #digital #Consumer ecosystem over the next few years. Together with accelerating US state-level regulation, and new federal data/AI laws in the works, changes in the US data and AI ecosystem are set to accelerate. (if only there was some human-centric Data & AI tech to maximise positive outcomes in the new reality... 😉) Check the video at 7:35:35 https://lnkd.in/eNi9wTFR Liz Brandt - worth watching before the UK Smart Data forum tomorrow. What is the most important regulatory principle in the new age of AI we’re going into? Is it transparency and the idea that AI agents and bots should announce themselves? Is it competition policy and making sure markets are fair?Loved having the opportunity to interview Rohit Chopra, Lina Khan, and Jessica Rosenworcel at The Aspen Institute today. https://lnkd.in/e6Huvthf
