In this edition, we celebrate Olympic values within our community—dedication, teamwork, perseverance, and excellence. Our staff embodies these qualities, ensuring personalized and compassionate care for our residents. We spotlight Mark Chance, a chef at Meadowbrook Respiratory and Nursing Center. Mark's dedication to providing top-notch meals and his positive attitude make him an invaluable team member. We also enjoyed a festive "Christmas in July" at Mystic Meadows Rehab & Nursing featuring a visit from Santa in a summer outfit. The event was a joyful success, filled with laughter and community spirit.

Today, on International Workers’ Memorial Day, we commemorate those who lost their lives or suffered injury due to lack of protection at work, and pledge to always fight for the health and safety of nursing staff. All nursing staff should expect healthy and safe workplaces, but from crumbling buildings to lack of protective equipment, it’s too often simply not the case. In this blog, Andrew writes about why becoming an RCN Health and Safety Rep can empower you to lead change and create safer, healthier workplaces for all. https://lnkd.in/eVBVJJHZ

Some thoughts on EMS Week!
🌟 Celebrating 50 Years of EMS Week! 🌟 As we mark the 50th anniversary of EMS Week, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible work of EMS workers and the dedicated individuals who teach and train them. Although I am new to the field, being an EMT has shown me that this job, like many forms of public service, is not particularly glamorous and often faces a shortage of people willing to do it. Recently, I joined my local volunteer squad, and I’ve experienced firsthand the challenges and rewards of this vital role. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our clients, partners, and friends for your patience and understanding while I was attending night and weekend EMT school. Your support made it possible for me to pursue this passion and help those in need. Here's to the unsung heroes of EMS and the spirit of service that drives us all. 🚑💙 https://lnkd.in/dMuv_tks

“Learning is a constant process of discovery - a process without end” - Albert Einstein. Education and training are career-long pursuits, and as a Network, we’re committed to supporting our nursing staff in continued learning and growth. The Network’s Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) masterclasses play an important part in our professional development program. These sessions not only equip our senior nursing staff with new skills but also create an opportunity for collaboration and connection with other leaders. This year, our NUM Development Pathway Masterclass focused on “learning through change”, facilitating discussions around driving change, navigating resistance and anchoring teams. Attendees embraced the chance to upskill, while also having a safe space to share their thoughts, experiences, and challenges. Together, we grow as leaders. We're committed to fostering a culture of learning and growth across the Network. Education and training opportunities like our NUM masterclasses are central to supporting the ongoing development of our brilliant nursing teams. Good for Iowa and the industry! Agency’s practise of overcharging Facilities dependent on Medicare and Medicaid and using questionable ethics to poach our employees needs to be gutted….. “The bill joins a small but growing tide of similar bills around the US, including at least 11 proposed state measures, that were under consideration in 2023. Regardless of this bill’s future success, Iowa’s state government has taken long-term care funding seriously in recent years — passing $15 million in new funding in 2023. By some metrics, the state is already the best in the nation for eldercare.” It would be nice if another “I” state, like Idaho, exhibited this type of concern for eldercare and our seniors…… #skillednursing #longtermcare
Way to go, Iowa!
