Event + Reaction = Outcome. 2 weeks after the Vistage UK Summit these words by Jamil Qureshi are still reverberating around my head. It’s become my mantra. We don’t necessarily control the EVENT (Coveys’ circle of concern) but we can control our REACTION (circle of influence) which means we ALWAYS have some say over the final OUTCOME. I have historically referred to this as: Don’t be a D*ck (That’s the reaction. The event is “other people being d*cks”) I try to live by this, but very often I fail. Sometimes you need to hear something said in a slightly different way to remind yourself of this stuff and to renew your commitment to what matters to you most.
