The Bliss Group was delighted to co-host the Women in Cleantech & Sustainability NYC Chapter’s first event last night. Our Impact practice co-lead and WCS co-chair emily porro was joined by Rachel Taplinger (Head of Sustainability at L'Oréal), Tiya Gordon (Founder of itselectric), Stephanie Stahl (Senior Advisor at Boston Consulting Group (BCG)), Lisa Chamberlain (Communications Lead and Urban Strategist at Centre for Urban Transformation), Angela Oberg (Chief Climate Officer at Rutgers University), and Krystal Persaud (Climate Entrepreneur featured on Shark Tank) to discuss the challenges women in the industry face and advice for those considering a career in sustainability. Here are our most important takeaways from the speakers: - Every job can be a sustainability position. There are solutions and changes that can be made at every level so don't let your title or budget hold you back. - Viewing challenges through a multidimensional lens helps you understand how to pivot quickly and problem solve. This is a valuable skill that can jumpstart your path upwards as you take a more active role. - The individuals who work in the sustainability industry are often passionate and driven, but burnout is real. Finding a group of supportive women who understand what you are experiencing and learning how to set boundaries are essential. We're honored to have been able to gather inspiring leaders to share their experiences and wisdom with us. Stay tuned for additional panels and networking opportunities at Bliss! #TheBlissGrp #WCS #networkingevent #womeninsustainability

Navigating Scope 3 Leadership | TEDx Speaker | Podcast Host | Top 1% most cited social scientists worldwide | Equipping global corporations with effective tools to connect & accelerate Scope 3 stakeholder action
𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 This year on international women’s day, I am so excited to feature a group of executive women having incredible impact across different industries around the globe. They are Chief Sustainability and Impact Officers. Some of these women include: Angela Baker, Amelia DeLuca, Kevval Hanna, Caitlin Leibert, Jeannie Renne-Malone, Suzanne Long, Shannon Schuyler, Anita Spiller, Mary Jane Melendez, Eileen Buckley, Ann Tracy, Renee Morin, Kate Brandt, Mary Curtiss, Shanique Bonelli-Moore If you are feeling despondent in your change initiatives, listening to these amazing women share their leadership lessons will bring you renewed energy and inspiration! These women leaders come from different backgrounds – communication, change management, the Peace Corps, theology, politics, philanthropy, supply chain management. But they can all see both the forest and the trees! The big picture and the people on the frontline. They are managing the complex web of corporate environment, social and governance responsibilities. Most have been appointed in the last 5 years, putting women in crucial roles in the C-Suite. Their job is to create ESG strategies to drive real change forward. Many of these women are moms, building a better world for their kids. Others come from island nations, suffering under climate change. They recognize that their task is hard, and the road is long, but they are also seeing incredible innovations and unprecedented partnerships. I am excited to work with these women in future, because they value science, understand accountability, and love to learn. They're willing to experiment. The biggest challenges we face are going beyond legislative check boxes to create genuine local advocates and changemakers. ESGs still operate in silos yet with a more comprehensive approach to collaborative leadership companies could empower employees, suppliers and customers to create more impact. We talk about circular economies, but we could also close the human resource loop with more respect for what diverse stakeholders can bring to corporations. We also need to appreciate the difference between typical consumer behaviors and sustainable social good. The challenge of asking people to invest in the future is very similar to the behavioral challenges we face in public health. The answer isn’t social marketing but rather empowering networks of champions to lead change. I look forward to sharing my thought leadership on these issues in a soon to be released White paper “The Future of Corporate Collaboration: Moving from ESG silos to ESG synergy using community leadership science and practice to advance corporate ESG efforts for greater good.” Who is inspiring you on #iwd2024 ? #iwd2024womenleadingtheway , #change, #culture, #leadership #behavioralscience #employeeengagement #organizationaldevelopment #inclusion #future #innovation #management #sustainability #socialimpact #esg

"The research has finally caught up with what we all know in our bones; women leaders deliver climate solutions. The UN Secretary General has published research that clearly shows one of the solutions to the climate crisis is more women in business. Solving the climate crisis means moving away from a traditional "shareholder" business model towards a "stakeholder" model focusing on planet, people and profit. Its proven that women put purpose at the heart of their business and female-led businesses want to serve people and planet rather than just make profit at any cost. That means championing female business leaders is now more important than ever. This is why the Women's Chapter is key – women supporting women to connect, inspire and thrive. Mother Earth is counting on women to find their voice and be heard to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals." - Aisling Connoughton Words like this set our hearts on fire and make all the hard work worthwhile. 👩💻Attending the Rotman Sustainability and Social Impact Conference on March 8, 2024, was an enriching experience that resonated deeply with the spirit of International Women's Day. 🤓The conference was a gathering of passionate individuals committed to driving positive change in the world. As a climate advisor, Felix's insights on regulatory frameworks and financial mechanisms illuminated the path towards sustainability. His perspective underscored the urgency of transitioning to sustainable practices, reminding us that it's not just a choice but a necessity for the well-being of our planet. 😇Throughout the day, discussions on leadership, finance, and building sustainable communities provided valuable insights and actionable strategies. The emphasis on collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation left a lasting impression on me, reinforcing the belief that real change happens when individuals come together with a shared purpose. 😇One particularly resonant point raised during the conference was the importance of gender diversity in leadership roles. It became evident that if companies aim to increase the number of women in managerial positions, a strategic approach is necessary. Simply placing any woman in these roles is not sufficient; rather, women need to be provided with adequate training and support to thrive in leadership positions. This sentiment was echoed by many speakers and attendees alike, highlighting the need for intentional efforts to empower women in the workplace. ❤️‘Another aspect of the conference that deeply resonated with me was the emphasis on training women based on their capabilities and humanity, rather than solely focusing on gender. The idea that women should be trained and supported as individuals, with their unique strengths and qualities taken into account, is crucial for fostering an environment of equality and inclusivity.’ I extend my thanks to Carina Miki and Jasmine Frendo for providing me with this opportunity. Their support has not only enriched my personal growth but has also contributed to the larger mission of creating a more sustainable and equitable world😊🌎

✨ What an incredible session by the The Female Quotient in the #EqualityLounge during #ClimateWeekNYC! So much inspiration and insight around embedding equity into sustainability strategy to drive meaningful change across all business. Key Takeaways: 🔥 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Change starts with us! Even when business is booming, there's always more to achieve with a sustainable, equitable approach. Use “purpose levers,” align vision, values, and strategy, and design organizations with governance that puts equity front and centre. 💡 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: If you don't ensure diverse voices are heard, you're missing opportunities. Create pathways for equity and sustainability to be embedded and become second nature across all decision-making processes within organizations. 📈 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲: It’s not that people don’t care about sustainability and equity - often they don’t see the connection to business value. Be the one to help expand their perspective and prove how these principles drive success. Favourite quotes from the session: “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥, 𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥, 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦.” “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘳𝘤 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦." Shoutout to forward-thinking companies like Deloitte, Siemens, and The Hartford for leading the way by aligning purpose with action. Special thanks to Christina Brodzik, Susan Goldsmith, Denise Quarles and Susan Johnson for their inspiring leadership in bridging sustainability and equity. You make the difference 👏👏👏 We all need to keep pushing for a future where equity and sustainability are not only aspirations but core realities in every business. 🚀 https://lnkd.in/gfV4svgB #Sustainability #Equity #Leadership #BusinessValue #DEI #DiversityAndInclusion #FutureOfWork

Navigating Scope 3 Leadership | TEDx Speaker | Podcast Host | Top 1% most cited social scientists worldwide | Equipping global corporations with effective tools to connect & accelerate Scope 3 stakeholder action
𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐝𝐚𝐲. It's encouraging to see so many women in influential sustainability positions in large global companies across the world. Anna Robertson, Debra Everitt McCormack, Francesca Mahoney, Leah Borgeson Stigile, Margaret Egan, Gayle Schueller, PhD, Jayme Smoot, Faith Taylor, Kate Williams, Kim Dabbs, Monica Batchelder, Maya Colombani, Virginie Helias, Bea Perez, Nancy Mahon, and so many more! They care about taking ESG to the next level with collaboration and cooperation on a new scale. They're embedding ESG within their organizations and across a broader business ecosystem. They face a myriad of challenges: - Consumers are reluctant to change their behaviors and stakeholders at all levels are disengaged - Suppliers are siloed and innovations are not being adopted across the value chain - Local policies are fragmented, disrupting efforts to improve sustainability at scale - Leaders and employees lack the skills to build a more collaborative business ecosystem But they are leading with pragmatic optimism. They are accustomed to complex challenges and the need to meet people where they are at. They are able to see the forest and the trees to create meaningful long term goals and important daily targets. Like me, they love hiking with their kids and pets. They love science and well tested theories of change. And together we can accelerate the pace of change and intensify our efforts to maximize their scale and impact long term. Let's build more capacity to lead change through developing changemaker skills in our employees, customer and communities. Let's design multi-level ESG solutions that address root causes and are engineered for widespread impact and scale from their inception. Let's foster growth and ignite engagement through shared decision making so that the promise of circular economy can be realized today, not tomorrow. Let's empower collective collaboration across a broader business ecosystem through mutual respect and reciprocal resources so that innovations and efficiencies can be translated into social and financial value without delay. I am confident about the future with sustainability progress in these women's hearts and hands. #earthday #humanresources, #change, #culture, #leadership #behavioralscience #employeeengagement #organizationaldevelopment #inclusion #future #innovation #management #sustainability #socialimpact

Sr. Program Manager | Diversity & Small Business Advocate | Driving Impactful Change through Strategic Solutions
As a woman deeply immersed in the realm of sustainability, I've journeyed through challenges that have only fortified my commitment to fostering positive change. Here's a glimpse into my experience: ✨ Advocacy isn't just about speaking up; it's about embodying passion, engagement, and unwavering dedication. It's the heartbeat of meaningful progress. ✨ In a world where voices sometimes get drowned out, I've learned the importance of never dimming my light or quieting my thunder. Our uniqueness is our strength. Anyone that knows me can hear my cackle & knows I speak with my hands so thought this pic was fitting 😉 ✨ I've discovered that environments and opportunities that truly value my experience and ideas are where I thrive. It's essential to seek out spaces that nourish and amplify our voices. ✨ The journey towards sustainability is one of continuous growth and evolution. I've embraced the mantra of never stopping learning, remaining curious, and open to new perspectives. ✨ True sustainability isn't achieved overnight; it's a testament to perseverance, tenacity, and consistent effort. Every small step forward contributes to the creation of lasting value for our planet and its inhabitants.
