To all my friends in the IT sector, I have a question to ask... What happens to all the e-waste, such as laptops, computers, monitors, displays, and phones, once they have reached their end of life or are upgraded? I ask because when the students at my university and I went on outreach programs to government schools, NGOs, and orphanages that housed children as a part of service learning projects earlier this year, one of the first things that stood out was the need for digital facilities. While most of our ideas revolved around improving digital literacy (even teaching coding), the lack of digital facilities rendered it unfeasible. Suppose we can somehow repurpose and reuse older systems (and overcome security issues) for children's education. I believe we can aid the children immensely by equipping them for an increasingly technology-oriented future. If you have some suggestions, information, or anything else, please feel free to reach out to me. Is this a solution that we can use to navigate the problem? #ewaste #it #laptops #monitors #sustainability #education #csr

The benefits of Computers to kids. With proper parental guidance!!!!! Computers play a vital role in shaping the lives of children. From education to entertainment, computers offer numerous benefits that contribute significantly to a child's development and learning. Here are some key advantages of computers for kids: 1. Educational Tools: Computers provide a vast range of educational resources that can enhance a child's learning experience. Through educational software and interactive websites, children can explore various subjects in an engaging and effective manner. This exposure not only reinforces classroom learning but also allows kids to grasp complex concepts through multimedia elements like videos, animations, and interactive games. 2. Access to Information: The internet opens up a world of knowledge for children. With supervision, kids can conduct research for school projects, learn about different cultures, and explore diverse interests. This access helps in developing strong research skills, critical thinking, and the ability to evaluate information from different sources. 3. Skill Development: Using computers regularly helps children develop essential skills such as typing, problem-solving, and digital literacy. Typing skills, in particular, are crucial in today's tech-driven world. Additionally, children can improve their creativity by using software for drawing, music composition, or video editing. 4. Enhances Communication: Computers facilitate communication and collaboration among children. Through email, messaging apps, and video calls, kids can stay connected with family and friends. Online platforms also encourage teamwork and social interaction, which are vital for developing interpersonal skills. 5. Encourages Self-paced Learning: Computers allow children to learn at their own pace. They can revisit lessons, practice skills, and explore topics based on their individual interests and abilities. 6. Prepares for the Future: In today's increasingly digital world, computer skills are essential for future success. Early exposure to computers equips children with the technical proficiency needed for higher education and the workforce. Familiarity with technology from a young age fosters adaptability and readiness for future advancements. 7. Promotes Creativity and Innovation: Computers offer a platform for kids to express themselves creatively. Whether it's coding a program, designing digital artwork, or crafting a story using multimedia tools, children can unleash their imagination and innovation through technology. 8. Fun and Engaging: Learning through computers can be fun and engaging for kids. Educational games and interactive activities make learning enjoyable and motivate children to explore new subjects with enthusiasm. In conclusion, computers provide a multitude of benefits to children, aiding in their cognitive, social, and academic development. Ted OdigieHaoma WorgwuCartoon Saloon

#Digitalaccessibility is interpreted in many ways within the UK Education Sector. For many of us, when we think of digital accessibility we may think of laptops in a classroom. Research from Digital Poverty Alliance shows that a worrying 26% of young people do not have access to a laptop or similar device. This is an important reality to face. For many of those affected, digital accessibility is about so much more than hardware. For EAL, SEND students, and their parents the tools which help them to engage with, and enjoy learning, are often barred behind a lack of resources. Digital tools that can help school leaders and pupils unlock the education they deserve are available to use. It’s just about knowing where to look. Here are some Google tools that are readily available for classroom leaders to make their lessons more accessible. #GoogleforEducation #WorkspaceforEducation #ChromeforEducation Oli Trussell Alexander Warran Anna Artemyeva
