Find someone to Mentor... Recently, my friend Aidah Agwang talked about being intentional about getting a Mentor, a Coach, and a Sponsor. I asked her to consider finding someone to Mentor as well because I believe, it is so important for leaders. Here's why; 👌🏻You get to help someone navigate life and work experiences with ease. There are things I can do with a snap of my fingers, but someone out there is struggling with them- thinking the world will end if they do not get it right. As a seasoned professional, you get to say, "Here is the path; follow it or try this." My mentor, Kate Coleman, is my all-time hero. I remember when I was struggling to start my firm, and I was telling myself I needed a thousand degrees and certifications, and she looked at me and said...." you actually do not need all that. You have what it takes." Now, I get to do that for others as well. 👌🏻Challenge your thinking and your methods. Each time I mentor a new person, I am forced to rethink certain things, and in some of the mentorship meetings, I get challenged by how they think. Working with Gen Zs will keep you on your toes. My mentorship relationships with amazing rising stars like Peter Segawa and other students at Miscio are game changers. 👌🏻You keep your passion burning. For me, these sessions are my way of serving the world and helping other leaders grow and live their best lives. When I see people like Lorna Charity Ayaa, Jolene Namukoko, Msc, and the rest happy and thriving, I pat myself on the back for the small part I played in certain seasons of their lives. I appreciate leaders like Ben Owilli Oyunu, who continuously send team members my way. Oh, please join in and come or send people my way. I live for these moments.

Dear Colleagues, Ever wonder why you have to wait so long to get a plumber, when you call for one?  What about an electrician?  What about having to wait weeks and weeks for your mechanic to have the time available to attend to your car?  𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲, 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀, 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀 -- those skills that make our lives livable in so many ways.  Most often, these are careers for which one does not need a college education.  As a result, young adults can get a lucrative, high-paying job in hundreds of trades and not emerge from four years of college education with debt and a degree which is hard to market. SkillsUSA Illinois is an organization on the move and is at the center of promoting the trades amongst high schools here in Illinois! As Senior Counsel for ACB - American City Bureau, Inc. , I have had the privilege of working with the team at SkillsUSA Illinois since January.  The positive impact that the Organization has on the lives of young adults who are seeking a career in the trades is phenomenal.  These positions are two great opportunities to get involved with a budding philanthropic services area, as we build it from scratch within the Organization.

“What is an O-P-S manager? And do I need one?” someone asked me last week. The woman asking me is a self-employed esthetician. She has had her own business for 3 years now and doesn’t have any employees, nor does she plan on it soon. I briefly explained my role, as this was over text, and I shared my own perspective. If I were her and was running out of time, getting behind on purchasing, admin, and strategic planning time, while still treating clients herself; I would opt for a Personal or Executive Assistant to help buy back her time on backend tasks but still deliver the highest client care and level of service. If I were her and had 2 or more estheticians, needing to step away from day-to-day operations, no longer treating clients, and needed someone to support with recruiting, hiring, and managing the business, I’d hire an Operations Manager. What other criteria would you have to hiring an Operations Manager?
