The Burning Glass Institute’s Post

Join our president, Matt Sigelman, at this year's #JFFHorizons on Tuesday, 7/23, at 1:15 pm ET as he discusses forthcoming Burning Glass Institute research in a panel titled “Launchpad Jobs: A First Job Isn't a Destiny, But Can Have a Profound Impact."   America’s secondary school education system often focuses on getting students into college, but 36% of high school graduates won’t go directly to college, and 42% of those who do won’t complete their degree. Young people entering the workforce after high school need targeted career planning support. Which initial jobs offer the greatest career agility, stability, and upward mobility? Which roles require additional credentialing or degrees? And which ones set students on the path toward their dream careers? Matt and his fellow panelists will discuss research on these topics and more.   Matt will be joined by experts such as Lauren Camera, Senior Writer at U.S. News & World Report; Earvin Young Jr, Vice President of Belonging Experience at Walmart; and Judith L. Goldstein, SVP of Public Relations, Communications & Planning at American Student Assistance. Together, they will discuss our upcoming report on "Launchpad Jobs" by The Burning Glass Institute and ASA, sharing key findings on which jobs provide the best long-term career outcomes in terms of earnings, stability, wage growth, educational attainment, and upward mobility for nondegree career starters.
