The International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum (IVECF) is set to commence this week, with a focus on advancing #climateaction and #sustainableenergy. The forum aims to underscore the action-oriented measures necessary to achieve the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals by 2030, striving for an inclusive pathway that leaves no one behind. Within this context, WSA partner, the UNIDO Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP), takes center stage. GCIP is a flagship initiative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) that champions #cleantech #entrepreneurship and #innovation for #climate action and sustainable industrial development across a network of over 16+ countries. The program accelerates cleantech #startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (#SMEs) from emerging markets and developing economies, enabling them to become investment-ready and scalable solutions through progressive #business acceleration at national and global levels. Notably, the final pitches from entrepreneurs involved in the GCIP program will be showcased during the IVECF. The judging panel for these presentations will include #WSA jurors Denby Royal and Gica Trierweiler. On Thursday, November 2, WSA Chairperson Prof. Dr. Peter A. Bruck will participate in the GCIP Cleantech Days fishbowl session titled "Connecting the dots to empower cleantech solutions and climate innovations." The session will feature speakers and contributors representing a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including the private sector with investment funds, large corporations, SMEs, and start-ups. Additionally, participants from governments, non-profit organizations, and civil society will contribute their insights and expertise to this critical discussion. Already a week since I returned from MIPIM and I’ve had the time to follow up on the connections I made, the conversations I had, and reflect on this year’s event. It was a great education exercise for me to experience differing views of the investment landscape and fascinating to learn about how the industry sees the market and opportunities over the short, medium, and longer term, given all that’s going on across the globe affecting markets. I was blown away by the positive response regarding Greater Lincolnshire’s commercial sector approach, and how we are seeing huge growth potential of our industrial clusters aligned to the UK’s need to be more self-sustained, particularly around renewable energy, food production, and the importance of having world class defence capability. It was apparent that a critical part of our job in Greater Lincolnshire is to continue educating investors around what great opportunities we will represent going forward, and perhaps too many people still hold an outdated view of Greater Lincolnshire as a large agricultural county. There is much work to still be done, but we are in a strong position off the back of all that has been done before, by my colleagues, Team Lincolnshire ambassadors and many more. Moving forward, I have more follow-up conversations with those I met at MIPIM who want to get to know Greater Lincolnshire better, and I’m really looking forward to building on our narrative of sector opportunity to lead to investment in commercial property and land, to create jobs, and attract skilled people who want to live and work in our area. Finally, on the housing side, we are working on plans to create exciting places to live for existing and new populations in years to come. #togetherwearegreater #investlincs #mipim2024

I have been lucky to gain skills and experience from a long career in operating model innovation, and to have worked on every continent (except the really cold one!). Since retiring from the corporate world, I have spent much of my time working on ways to improve livelihoods sustainably; for me sustainability means commercial viability as well as what is good for our environment. Fred Puckle Hobbs and Shreya Mallabadi have created Tathva to help and support businesses that share our goals, and effectively engage the many agencies in the corporate and philanthropic world that want to see these changes happen; I am really excited to be part of their initiative. There is plenty of impetus for change out there with many committed individuals trying to drive beneficial change but it can be really hard for such ventures to demonstrate their value and attract the investment they need. Tathva's aim is to use our skills and knowledge to drive sustainable impact, collaborating with intrepid entrepreneurs and passionate investors to drive forward programmes that really improve livelihoods, as well our relationship with the planet on which we all depend. Our focus is to support and enable sustainable agri-businesses in emerging economies, both terrestrial and marine – green and blue! We know that smaller businesses are the engine room for prosperity in any economy. Tathva is set up to help such businesses demonstrate measurable impact and value in a way that will enable them to secure the funding they need to grow and prosper - and make the deal cost effective and sustainable for both fund providers and fund users. I know many of the contacts I have made over the years share my desire for sensible, sustainable transformation.
