When doctors need to know how organs, tissues or diseases function, nuclear medicine technologists often get the call. For imaging, they administer a small amount of radiopharmaceuticals and use a novel scanner to capture an image of the specific body part. And with modern advancement in nuclear medicine, by using theranostics, technologists can now be part of the diagnostic and therapeutic team. Share this post to spread the word about the vital role nuclear medicine technologists play on the health care team. #BeSeenASRT asrt.org/BeSeen

Thankful to be a contributing part of the Nuclear Medicine community to aid in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment for Cardiac Amyloidosis. The Tc99m-PYP scan is a non-invasive study with both high sensitivity and specificity in detecting the disease. Once these patients are diagnosed, new treatments aid in halting the disease progression, allowing for an increased quality of life as well as extending their life. Great article from SNMMI: https://lnkd.in/eGbiamFk #nuclearmedicine #snmmi #asnc
Renaissance: a revival of or renewed interest in something. This month's Uptake explores the rising interest in diagnosing cardiac amyloidosis. Once thought to be rare, this cardiac condition is driving the demand for Tc-99m pyrophosphate (PYP) scans. With its increased sensitivity and specificity, this nuclear medicine scan can diagnose cardiac amyloidosis noninvasively and with less risk, and the rise in accurate diagnosis has also spurred treatment innovations. Will these scans continue to be in demand? Find out in this month's Uptake! Thanks to this month's Uptake authors Jaime Warren, Ed.D, MBA, MHS, CNMT, FACC, and Mary Beth Farrell, Ed.D, CNMT, NCT, RT(N), FSNMMI-TS. Actually, there’s scientific backing linking statin medications to the development of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s. 🧠💊 While there’s a lot of mixed evidence, and this field is new and developing, research published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine has shown that in certain instances, taking statins may more than double the risk of developing Alzheimer’s. Of course, it’s important to consult with healthcare professionals when interpreting such findings. For more details, check the link below. #HealthAwareness #StatinResearch #CognitiveDecline #AlzheimersDisease #ScientificResearch #JournalOfNuclearMedicine #StayInformed

The next 3 days we will be unlocking the potential of Nuclear science, a field that is underdeveloped in our setting, but with so much potential. My interest and focus is of course in Radiation medicine,Diagnostic Imaging, Quality Control and Assurance, Radiation Protection, Research and Innovation. Radiation is a gem that can cure not only cancer, but many non-cancerous conditions.. #Swakopmund #Namibia #NuclearScience #RadiationOncology #Medicalphysics #CancerCare
