Community power is real, and we're seeing it flourish through the incredible work of the Center for Common Ground! This story is just one powerful example of what happens when community-driven efforts take root. A Black woman, running for state Senate in Southwest Virginia, defied expectations and won her primary election. Against all odds, and even against a handpicked successor of the incumbent, she emerged victorious. This isn’t just about an election—it’s about community capital at work. It’s about people coming together, believing in local leadership, and reshaping their future. What impresses us most about the Center for Common Ground is their authentic, ground-up approach. They don't just parachute in with funds and dictate solutions. They listen. They invest in people who have lived the challenges, and they empower local voices to lead. It's this kind of investment—rooted in trust, respect, and genuine partnership—that drives real, lasting change. Community capital is about more than money; it's about uplifting leadership, investing in potential, and transforming our neighborhoods from within. We're honored to be part of this movement that’s cultivating true change from the ground up. #CommunityCapital #ImpactInvesting #CommunityEmpowerment #CenterForCommonGround #LocalLeadership #SocialImpact #GrassrootsMovement #CommunityDrivenChange #InvestmentInPeople #RCICommunityFunds #ChangeFromWithin

At Equal Justice USA we kept seeing the same problem 😣: grassroots community leaders struggling to secure funding 💰💵💲. We couldn't find a good resource, so we built🏗️ one. From scratch. It took so many months and required so much work, but the team persisted because only 7% of philanthropic dollars are targeted toward Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and POC communities. Introducing: Getting Grant Ready, a *FREE* resource customized for emerging grassroots organizations, aspiring grant writers in community-led, violence prevention movements, and midsize organizations seeking diverse funding opportunities. Please share widely! 🎉🎉🎉 https://lnkd.in/e-PwngUg

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, which commemorates the day in 1865 when the final enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned that they were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect. At C-Strategies, we’re proud to work with clients who work every day to advance racial equity in their communities and throughout our state through nonprofit work, policy and advocacy, mutual aid and more. We are watching this happen to many organizations trying to do the work in supporting a more equitable society. Now, funds are limited because the status quo wants to remain in power. These programs work and this work is necessary. This is not new, society works in patterns and now our work becomes even more important. Ultimately, grantmakers and funders, we see what society you want to really maintain. "Leaders of the racial justice movement know that the nation faces a formidable array of threats from a right-wing backlash that relies on censorship and authoritarianism. Instead of spending their energy, money, and time on unneccesary compliance, foundations can support the many campaigns, strategy sessions, research projects, and other work that will lead to true justice and eliminate the racist and exclusionary narratives that threaten democracy. At this pivotal moment in history, conceding is not an option." https://lnkd.in/g9e2qAY8
