My childhood rugby club, I spent most of my years at Salisbury Rugby Club, famous for a few players. Mike Brown came out of there, Will Stewart played there as well. So there's a good few names out of there. It's the Marcel Michelin, the Claremont Verne Stadium. They've got a massive band. As you run out it's so loud you can't hear yourself think and that was definitely the best atmosphere I've played at. The worst dress is definitely Oscar Beard. The best dressed is probably Danny Kaye. He's he always looks dapper. Favorite cheap meal is a Five Guys bacon double cheeseburger, bacon cheese dog and a large fries. Rugby idol is Christian Cullen I think probably a bit niche but the way he counterattacked. The way he could beat defenders was always something I look for when I watched Super Rugby back in the early 2000s. The one bit of advice I think I'd pass on would be don't let one coaches opinion stop your dreams or stop, stop you focusing on what you wear you wanna get to. I think a lot of coaches, they have different, different opinions when you're younger and you might not develop until you're a bit older. So don't let that one person's opinion stop you in in your path. I think the most valuable lesson I've learned from being in round the England campus is like you're discipline in recovery and your ability to be always to perform at your best. You want to put 100% out on the training pitch every time you go out there. So you've got to get the off field stuff right in in your recovery and your analysis as well. Favorite sport outside of rugby is football. Big Manchester United supporter. Final four teams in the EUR? I'm not. I'm not sure on the draw. But if I was going back four teams, obviously you got back England, it's coming out. I think France will be in and around it. I think. Germany would also be in and around it after disappointing one last time and then we'll Chuck in Portugal as well. OK, here we go. I'd put Matasi revising goal. You'd have to be in goal. He's he can save anything. I think at the back what I got, I got 2 defender. I think I've go Luke Northmore. And I'd go. Let's Chuck in a We have to put another forward in there. Reckon. Let's check. George Hammond did. Ross Barkley. Sitting just in front of them, I think I put Marcus Smith, I think he will keep running for you in in that midfield role. Just in front of him. We go Danny Kerr and then up top. Let's check Alex, Don, Brandon, I reckon little poker up top.

EQUITY is a very important value in my life (more than EQUALITY, but that’s another post for another day). At last night’s Denver Barbarians Rugby Club training, we had a scrimmage against our “sister” rugby club, Colorado Gray Wolves. I used to coach a women's team back in New York, and many of my current players have played in co-ed touch rugby teams, but this was the first time any of us had played in a men vs women game. Specific aspects were adapted and controlled to maintain safety and security, but otherwise it was a regular scrimmage. In our sport, soft skills such as rugby IQ, spatial awareness, and communication are no less important than hard “skills” such as strength, physicality, and aggression, and under last night’s controlled conditions, the soft skills in my players were thoroughly tested. The result was a highly competitive, highly skillful, and highly equitable game of rugby where both teams adapted, learned, and had fun, three key tenets of my coaching (and leadership) philosophy. Moral of the story: “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others”. This is true in sport and in business, and to achieve equity we must recognize these inequalities, make adjustments, and adapt. But here’s the rub: blindly putting our thumb on the scale to engineer equity, is the absolute antithesis of equity. #passion #purpose #performance #equity #leadership #coaching #timrhutchins

Last night we engaged in a live scrimmage with our close friends at Colorado Gray Wolves, to help with their preparation for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) season which the kicks-off on Saturday. Both squads benefited from stiff competition, and played some excellent rugby within controlled parameters of contact and physicality. When working with players of this high skill level and rugby IQ, we achieved a highly competitive environment while maintaining safety and security for all the players. What's not to love about small sided practices? Lots of involvements and energy. But there are a few pitfalls if coaches aren't careful.... Rugby coaches have rightly learned from their round ball counterparts to use 'rondo' practices to re-create some of the pieces of the game day experience. This is an article I recently contributed to Rugby Coach Weekly, to provoke some thought around the use of this great tool with a few considerations.
