A growing Rust project when managed as a single cargo workspace inside a monorepo has a number of advantages but the compile times can creep up on you over time. This episode of the Oxide Computer Company and Friends podcast has a great discussion around that topic: https://lnkd.in/drtzpnUB. One of the more impactful points: when building different crates of your workspace, varying feature combinations can lead to prolonged build times. cargo-hakari (https://lnkd.in/d_smNvRC) is a simple drop-in solution to this problem. In addition to that (and this might be obvious), just because you organize your project as a monorepo does not mean you need to combine every crate inside one workspace. Keeping some crates independent (e.g. by using the exclude list if your Cargo.toml workspace section) still allows you to depend on them (using path dependencies) but reducing their impact if your using those crates standalone or from other dependents. This definitely has helped me over time as I tend to organize my projects into lots of small binaries/examples and libraries which themselves tend to be fairly lightweight.

This weeks episode of The Proof Point discusses some messaging details I've been battling with just in the last week or two myself. Are we too focused on outcomes in messaging without actually explaining how we help make it happen? Are we niched down enough? Actually? Great ep with an awesome group of guests. You know where to check it out.
