🚨 🚨 Attention states seeking to scale and sustain effective partnerships and engage impacted communities in health policy development and implementation...🚨 🚨 The results of a one-year learning collaborative that convened four cross-agency state teams to improve cross-sector alignment, coordination, and collaboration between public health and the health system are in! Just completed an Implementation Research course, created by the Dalla Lana School of Public Health in collaboration with Public Health Training for Equitable Systems Change (PHESC) and it's been enlightening. We delved into how IR brings theory into practice, bridging the gap between research and real-world impact. A significant aspect was the Theory of Change (ToC), which serves as a guiding light, ensuring clarity and stakeholder alignment throughout the research process. The course underscored the importance of equity-focused research, emphasizing the need to ensure fair access to healthcare resources for all. Additionally, we explored strategies for scaling up interventions, considering sustainability and equity implications. #learning #certification #research

Excellent lunch and learn from the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials - Building Strategic Skills for Public Health Professionals. A passion I don't speak much about is the advancement and future of public health practice in the US and this webinar perfectly encapsulates a lot of the factors holding back current practice from living up to what many of us in the field envision. Lots of snapping my fingers and yes-es as I went through this as the panelists perfectly captured the experience of many public health practitioners working in local PH departments; school isn't preparing us to operate in that environment and a lot is learnt on the job. There are the highlights and things I will take away from this discussion: 1️⃣ Strategic Skills in Public Health: These are the abilities to manage resources, engage with communities and policies, and address management and strategic issues. The panelists prioritized resource management, community engagement, and policy engagement, recognizing the significance of different strategic skills in PH work contexts. 2️⃣ Impact and Challenges in Public Health: The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the crucial role of strategic skills, as management and strategic issues became pivotal during this global health crisis. Additionally, the lack of budgeting education in public health schools posed challenges in managing grants; huge need here. Additionally, investing in PH staff training for organizational effectiveness is another need that some are now beginning to address thanks to PH Infrastructure Grant funding. 3️⃣ Professional Development and Leadership: Another key point mentioned was the imperative of professionalizing the public health workforce and the significance of creating accessible and in-depth learning channels for professional development. Some of the topics under the umbrella of professional development include the journey in public health training, embracing diversity for impactful leadership, and the value of strategic skills in evolving as a complete professional in the field. Can't wait to get my hands on the book!! #publichealth #publichealth3.0 #strategicskills
