"Elementos’ interest in Iberian Smelting, on completion will make the company 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲’𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗿. Tin premiums on LME prices in Europe are typically US$200-500 per tonne higher than in Asia, indicating an opportunity for increased refined production in Europe. Vertical integration on a national scale is increasingly being targeted in the tin industry, with existing ore and concentrate export bans in Indonesia and Uganda, and ‘first refusal’ agreements for smelters in Bolivia. On a company scale, there is growing interest from miners to construct smelters, particularly in Europe, Africa, and Australia where there is little primary refined tin production." - International Tin Association Ltd. #Elementos #ELT #tin #MiningNews #Spain #LME

The option of having a copper smelter-refinery in Papua New Guinea, especially at Vanimo, Wewak, Madang or Lae, needs to be considered seriously. Apart from those in China, Japan, South Korea and elsewhere, the closest one we have is Glencore-operated copper smelter-refinery facility at Townsville in North Queensland, Australia. OK Tedi closes in 2050. Wafi-Golpu and Frieda River are now in permitting stage. Yandera and Panguna are two major projects that will produce copper soon (in 10-20 years). Other copper-bearing mineral systems such as Nong River, Tifalmin, Mt Bini, Kili Teke, Kokofimpa (Bilimoia Area), Ipi River and April River (Niksek), amongst others, may be progressed with time to development . #Copper_Smelter #Copper_Refinery #Copper_Cathode_Plates #Ok_Tedi #Wafi_Golpu #Frieda_River #Yandera #Panguna #Nong_River #Tifalmin #Mt_Bini #Kili_Teke #Bilimoia_Area

The IABC welcomes our new Corporate Sponsor Nickel Industries Limited (NIC). Nickel Industries Limited (NIC) is an ASX-listed company which owns a portfolio of mining and low-cost downstream nickel processing assets in Indonesia. The Company has a long history in Indonesia, with controlling interests in the world-class Hengjaya Mine, as well as four rotary kiln electric furnace (RKEF) projects which produce nickel matte for the electric vehicle (EV) supply chain and nickel pig iron (NPI) for the stainless-steel industry. Having established itself as a globally significant producer of NPI, the Company is now rapidly transitioning its production to focus on the EV battery supply chain - recently, the Company has acquired a 10% interest in the Huayue Nickel Cobalt (HNC) HPAL project, adding mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) to its product portfolio. Nickel Industries is now embarking on its next transformative step, investing in Excelsior Nickel Cobalt (ENC), a next-generation HPAL project capable of producing MHP, nickel sulphate and nickel cathode. ENC is expected to produce approximately 72,000 tonnes of nickel metal per annum, diversifying the Company’s production and reducing the Company’s carbon emissions profile - reflecting the strong commitment to sustainable operations. Freeport McMoran expects to export 900,000 mt of copper concentrate from Indonesia in 2H2024, unnamed sources told Reuters earlier this week. Freeport’s export license with the country was set to expire this month but has since been extended after positive talks with the Indonesian government. In 2020, Indonesia banned raw material exports but allowed companies such as Freeport to maintain export quotas while their smelters were under construction. Freeport’s Indonesian copper smelter is set to open this month but won’t reach full capacity until later in the year. In this article from The Wire China, CRU's Angela Durrant highlights the reasons why Chinese companies are able to stay afloat and expand their production and market share despite the price crash on several battery minerals. "They have labour and ore on tap," says Angela. "The original reason to go to Indonesia was because of cheap power. It has its own captive coal supply...which is one of the key drivers in keeping costs down." Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eHawQq5D #Nickel #BatteryMinerals #MiningAndMetals
