Another nice move, Morrisons 👏 I saw a few take up the opportunity on their shopping trip. Other things I ❤️ about this supermarket: ▪️Food bank packages are found on the entrance to the supermarket. Packaged up items with prices for you to grab, scan and donate. Easy and a helpful reminder before you start shopping too! ▪️Kids eat free (if you purchase an adult meal over £4.50). Easily done and kids eat a proper, hot meal. Perfect if you're short of time. Parents delight! ▪️Plenty of community notices up featuring events such as Social Saturday event (if you're lonely and in need of a social space to have a chat and a cuppa, it's perfect). ▪️ Did you see their Christmas tree bauble idea? Pick up a bauble, scan it at the checkout ➕️ money is donated to local food banks. ▪️Mini library encouraging you to pick up a book and read or add your own/exchange for another. Have you observed anything in your local supermarket worthy of a shout out? #Supermarket #CommuntiyInitiative #CommunityWork #Charity #FoodBank

🌟 Did you know? While many donors generously support specific projects, charities often face challenges in funding core and staff costs. 🤔 Think of it this way: Funding a project is like buying ingredients for a meal. But without the pots, pans, and a cook, that meal can't come together! 🍳 Core costs – like staff salaries, office rent, and utilities – are the backbone that keeps charities running smoothly and efficiently. 🏢💡 Next time you donate, consider contributing to the "boring" stuff. It's these essential expenses that enable charities to make a real, lasting impact. 💪❤️ Together, we can make a difference, from the ground up! 🌍✨ #SupportCoreCosts #BehindTheScenes #CharitySupport 📸 I’ve been chatting to 2 charities this week that are affected by this. Core costs are critical to a charity in order to run. I’m currently supporting a couple of different charities who would really benefit from core cost donations and time and expertise from business owners. If you’re interested in finding out more jump into my DMs.

Not every email needs a donate button or link. Sometimes not asking for a gift is better. All our email newsletters include a donate section. The past two months we increased how often we send these emails and the generosity of people blew our minds. Because of this, our last email newsletter did not have a donate section. Instead, we added a link to a video thank you message from our CEO. A heartfelt gesture we believed better than asking for money. The response surprised us. We received the same amount of donations without asking in the email. The video page does not ask for a donation, either. People navigated away from both the email and the video page to donate. You shouldn't always expect to get gifts from an email that doesn't ask. You may see your rewards in the long run. If you always have a way to donate on your email, consider taking it off and provide different content, a video, an e-book, etc. #emailmarketing #nonprofit #cultivation #npocampaignlab

No thank-you. On September 3, it started. I found a thick brown envelope in the mailbox, a mailing from a charity that shall remain nameless. I knew at once that it contained a “free gift,” the first of many I suspect I will receive between now and December. (To add insult to injury, “free gift” is redundant.) I was curious enough to open the envelope and see what the “gift” was – a handful of rather pathetic holiday cards. My response—thanks but no thanks. Why do charities do this? Because it works. People (not me!) are guilted into giving because they have received. If the mailing list is large enough, the costs are low, and the campaign raises money. I’ve spent most of my career doing communications in the non-profit fundraising world. I know how tough it is to attract funding for important work.. And I’m quite sure that nobody in the sector is thrilled about this particular tactic, but well, the end is seen to justify the means. Why should charities not do this? Because people should give because they understand and care about the cause, not because the gift of socks, shopping bags, greeting cards or other useless stuff makes them feel awkward. And because, at a time when the world is facing ecological disaster, there is absolutely no excuse for cutting down trees unnecessarily or creating additional waste. If you want my support, tell me your story, which is the best gift of all.

Subscription as a service is all the rage right now. You can have movies, murder mysteries, and moss (yes, the plant that grows on rocks) delivered to your house. Nonprofits have jumped into the subscription game, too. Why? Not because it’s popular. Because it helps improve retention. For-profit brands see a 70-90% increase in retention rate. With a donor retention rate that is declining, it is no wonder organizations have begun to offer monthly giving programs. One of the best ways to ask donors is through email. If the email doesn’t provide a few key points it will get ignored, or worse, get spammed. One organization delivers the necessary components to encourage supporters to become monthly donors. 🎄Festive Giving🎄 As the 2024 holiday season approaches, charities can expect two major spikes in donations, according to insights from goDonate. The first surge is anticipated on Friday, December 20th, when many people receive their final pay-check before Christmas. Another wave is likely on Monday, December 23rd, driven by pension and salary payments. To maximise year-end giving, charities should strategically align their communications around these key dates, leveraging the data and generosity that peaks during this period. Has your charity looked at previous donation data to help inform your Christmas supporter communications? For any support, across your Festive campaigns, communications and beyond, drop us a message! 📩 The full article can be found in the comments below 👇 #Fundraising #Communications #IndividualGiving #Data

Continuing this series of posts around the charity #OverheadMyth, today focusses on the "100% model", as championed by a few charities including charity water. "100% of your gift funds clean and safe drinking water". "From day one, we’ve relied on a small group of generous philanthropists to fund our operating expenses—things like staff salaries, office rent, and trips to the field." Which seems to appeal to some people, but I've personally only ever read in in one of two ways: 1. Some other schmuck pays for our salaries and utilities, YOUR donation is lovingly applied only to the mission that we've forensically detached from our costs… Or 2. Someone who *really gets* what matters pays for overheads, so we can hoodwink you into thinking that you're only paying for the cool and worthy bits you like. It's interesting to note that they now attribute Gift Aid towards these operating expenses. I'm sure many charities could make the same claim just by similarly attributing their Gift Aid. Just to balance things, this isn't a criticism of charity water specifically. I do like that they seem to really strive to be transparent, and in some ways other charities could learn from them. Further counterpoint, there are some financial details that can be found more easily for many other charities than charity water, and arguably, RNLI for example are equally or more transparent about their financials. Do you love or hate the 100% framing?
