So, after 13 years, I’m leaving Toluna. It seems like forever ago and yesterday that I joined the business in the inverted rabbit warren of rooms opposite Ealing Studios. An eclectic team behind an innocuous door. Since then, it’s been an incredible, addictive, and compelling ride. There are three over-riding emotions on leaving: gratitude, pride, and excitement. The gratitude is for the brilliant and diverse people I’ve been surrounded by that were bold enough to challenge the norm and evolve from colleagues or clients to a network of friends that span the globe. I’m also grateful for the unequivocal support from Frederic-Charles Petit, Mark Simon and the whole Toluna team when I was diagnosed with throat cancer after less than a year in the business. That support, as my family and I were about to board the surgery, chemo, and radiotherapy roller coaster will never be forgotten. Pride stems from our team, our clients, and our tech. Whether it was our team going that extra mile to deliver, our ground-breaking technology shaking up the industry, or our customers freeing themselves from traditional ways of working (it’s no coincidence that some of the early-pioneer users of QuickSurveys now lead some of the most impactful insight teams on the planet). It was a privilege to build out the UK team and to watch people grow and flourish. From there it was a great journey working with the EMEA leadership, global exec, and our brilliant teams in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Haifa, Hamburg, London, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Paris and Timisoara. I’m also incredibly proud of our clients’ ability to apply intellect, integrity, and innovation in a constantly challenging and fast-moving landscape. Finally, there’s excitement. I can’t wait to see the Toluna business flourish in the months and years to come. I love the new shape, structure, and vision of the leadership team and compelling offer that’s being built out. And, for me, there’s the excitement of attacking something new. For those that had already heard the news, thanks for reaching out to discuss topics from tequila and veggie burgers to PE-backed start-ups and psychotherapy.
