🇦🇺🤩 Austal has finalized the sea acceptance and endurance trials of the Royal Australian Navy’s Sentinel autonomous patrol vessel. Held off the coast of Western Australia, the trials involved simultaneous autonomy and remote-controlled tests of the ship using Advanced Maritime Autonomy software developed by Greenroom Robotics Pty Ltd. “Looking ahead, we are excited about the potential opportunities to work with the Navy to further advance the autonomous technology demonstrated during the trial; on projects such as the Large Optionally Crewed Surface Vessels (LOSV), recently announced by the Australian Government as part of the Surface Combatant Fleet Review,” Austal Limited CEO Paddy Gregg stated. #military #army #militarytech #defensetech #technology #defense #defence #defenseindustry #defenceindustry #maritimedefence #naval #navy #austal #austalaustralia #evolvedcapeclass #patrolboats #ausnavy #australia #autonomous

Much is being written this week in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the allied invasion of Normandy—likely the most important single day of the 20th century. In this post, I'd like to highlight the amazing #strategy and #planning that made D-Day possible. D-day involved the largest sea armada, air armada, and single-day mobilization of combat personnel ever assembled before or since (5000+ boats, 3000+ planes, 1 million+ allied personnel). One of the less-heralded planning tasks was the need to set up artificial harbors for the movement of supplies and support since none of the invasion sites had existing ports or harbors. Allied planners envisioned and then executed the construction of "Mulberries," portable harbors that were made of more than 2 million tons of concrete and set into place immediately after the invasion. Moving that much concrete across the channel required every single tugboat in the UK and many from the U.S. as well. If you couldn't move ammunition, food, water, and supplies behind the invading force, the invasion would have collapsed before it began. Still today, the mulberries are considered the greatest military engineering achievement of all time. One of my jobs at SAS as we get ready for entry into the public market is leading our strategic planning efforts. D-Day is a great reminder that an effective mission requires bold, visionary planning. So... what about you? How bold and visionary are your strategies and plans?#leadership #Dday

The arresting cable on an aircraft carrier is a critical component of the ship's flight deck, designed to quickly slow down and stop aircraft that have just landed. It consists of steel cables stretched across the deck, with each aircraft equipped with a tail hook that catches one of these cables. This system brings the aircraft, traveling at high speeds, to a complete stop in a short distance, ensuring safe landings. The arresting cable is essential for the efficient and safe operation of aircraft on aircraft carriers. 🇬🇧🚁 The UK Ministry of Defence is reducing its much-awaited purchase of New Medium Helicopters by a third, representing a major setback in its goal to modernize the country’s aerial fleet. Industry sources recently revealed to British lawmakers that the defense ministry will procure as few as 30 helicopters, a dramatic reduction from the 44 announced in 2022. Although no reason was provided, earlier reports claimed the reduction is based on available funding. #military #army #technology #militarytech #defensetech #defense #defence #defenseindustry #defenceindustry #uk #unitedkingdom #helicopter #helicopters #aviation #militaryaviation #aerospace

Exciting things are happening at PEO Land Systems! In the most recent Force Design 2030 update, Marine Corps leadership underscored the transition from light armored reconnaissance battalions to mobile reconnaissance battalions. This shift necessitates a blend of aerial, sea, and land systems, and the acquisition community at Hospital Point is spearheading this effort. The premier, most battle-hardened thermal imaging system. It's the default of the Ukrainian army for implementation on their armoured and unmanned vehicles. On this National EOD Day, Valor Robotics honors the bravery, courage, and sacrifice of the men and women who conduct Explosive Ordnance Disposal. Valor hopes to protect the lives of our nation's EOD technicians and divers through autonomous EOD robotics. Just last week, our team successfully demonstrated our naval EOD platform, a vehicle-agnostic module that permanently attached custom payloads to a variety of mock underwater threat objects. With technologies like this, Valor aims to keep our warfighters out of harm's way and enable safer EOD operations on the frontlines. Reach out to learn more and to help support our EOD forces. Thanks to Drones, the Next Military Revolution Is Upon Us This is a massive new challenge for armed forces, especially for armies and navies. Armed forces usually adapt slowly in peacetime, resisting change. Well, only the most hidebound will be ignoring the revolution in military affairs underway in Ukraine and the Red Sea. Just one example highlights how it’s changing things. Formerly a guided missile would hardly be used to kill a...
