Been working on a little something on the side these days for my portfolio work. After watching an Aston Martin commercial finished by Company3, I decided that I'd rather see my take on things. Check out the original commercial and then watch my version. I used digital capture tools because I don't have access to the source footage which means I'm limited to the duration of each shot, based on their original cut. So, essentially, I re-arranged the shot sequence, added new engine/exhaust SFX including music, complete with my own version of color and here's what I came up with. https://lnkd.in/gQmpsyfx

Creating full-scale F1 films is challenging due to the immense detail and logistics required. Upcoming movies like "Apex," featuring Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton, and Ron Howard's "Rush" delve into the intricate world of F1, promising to excite both fans and newcomers. Classic F1 films have set the standard for racing movies. "Grand Prix" (1966) used innovative techniques to capture the excitement of the sport, while "Rush" (2013) depicted the intense rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda with a mix of practical effects and CGI. He assembled a team of animators and filmmakers from around the world to explore what might be possible with 'mocap' Motion Capture and the latest tech from Unreal Engine and Maya 3D software. Can virtual people effectively express authentic emotions? Can audiences be touched, moved and inspired by performances captured using free software and off-the-shelf hardware? Super Bowl commercials serve as an excellent opportunity to gauge current trends or overused techniques in cinematography. Here are a few observations from 2024: The wide and close lens. Ads shot primarily with wide lenses have been super popular in the past few years. I often see them keeping the camera closer to talent and shooting from a lower angle. Although this one may be beginning to phase out, I still quite like the look. Color grading is leaning towards either a clean, bright, and natural look, or a split-tone, saturated, and low-contrast style. Video walls were only noticeably used in two ads. This suggests that the industry is moving in the right direction by using them more subtly. I was relieved to see less of that shot where the camera rapidly moves up into the talent's face, often handheld. This one has been extremely overused by now. Most of the current trends I’m noticing seem to have been around for a while. I'm curious to see what techniques will emerge for the rest of the year. My prediction is we will see more snorri-cam shots, and camera movement that intentionally breaking of the fourth wall, for example, picking up the camera from the ground and framing it up during the shot. With all the barriers put forward with Liberty Media and now the F.I.A of Andretti Motorsports attempting to become a entrant in F1. Only on the premise of purchasing a current team . This is outrageous ! Who in there right mind would pay 250% over the actual value of anything. Andretti / Cadillac(G.M) should wait until the new chassis engine rules come out after 2025-2026. There will be many opportunities available after Liberty Media / F.I.A with there ridiculous speculations on chassis, engine specs for the future will drive F1 into the basement. Until then every F1 event in the U.S should be boycotted with pressure put on Liberty Media with antitrust litigation. Some smart U.S attorneys can bring them down as was Philip Morris as a sponsor with tobacco advertising.
