When I saw this, I immediately wondered: who beat this recruiter down, candidates or their own company? Perhaps both. In my view, the key to a positive recruiting experience, beneficial for both candidates and recruiters, is EMPATHY. I've always believed that recruiters (and hiring managers) shouldn't approach interviews with cold demands and display disrespect. If a company boasts about its culture and how well it treats employees, that should extend to candidates, too. Companies, empower your recruiters to demonstrate empathy. Make it the norm and an expectation. This will make the interview process more tolerable for everyone involved. Job hunting is tough enough; let's not add unnecessary stress. Could empathy actually relieve some of the dread? I am fortunate to have the freedom to treat candidates as human beings, offering support both to my company and to the candidates who dedicate their time to our process.
