The Elizabeth Hospice is hosting a monthly walk for people grieving the loss of a loved one. Grief Walk will take place at Liberty Station on Saturday, July 20. Jenna Waters, a certified grief educator, will facilitate the experience. Participants will meet at the southeast corner of Cushing and Womble in the large park across from the parking lot at 9:30am. This easy-paced walking group offers participants an opportunity to share with others, walk in silence, or dedicate the walk to a loved one. There’s no cost to attend and is open to everyone in the community. Grief Walk will be offered at different locations throughout San Diego County. For details on future walks, email hummingbird@ehospice.org or call 760-705-6736.

It Takes a Village: The Power of Community Support The truth is, it takes a village to get through the tough stuff in life. Whether it's a crisis, a significant loss, or a bout of grief that knocks us down, having a supportive community around us can make all the difference. It doesn’t have to be a big village, but we all need people to help hold us up when life feels overwhelming. In challenging times, the value of a helping hand, a listening ear, or just a presence that stands by your side cannot be overstated. This support network—our village—provides more than just comfort; it offers the strength needed to face each day, one step at a time. Here in our community, we strive to be that village for each other. By sharing our stories, offering our support, and simply being there, we create a network of care that upholds each member during their most challenging times. 🌿 If you’re feeling knocked down, reach out. If you see someone struggling, extend a hand. Together, we can make the burden a little lighter and the journey a little easier. How has your village supported you through tough times? Share your experiences and let’s celebrate the strength of community. An iReach survey Irish Hospice Foundation commissioned in Decemeber 2023 gives an insight into Irish attitudes to death and grieving. The research (1,000 people) reveals that: 👉 1 in 2 people in Ireland struggle to know what to say to someone who's grieving. 👉 Only 3 in 10 of us feel that there are enough supports for those who are bereaved. 👉 3 in 4 of us believe family and friends are really important during the grieving process. National Grief Awareness Week aims to raise awareness of grief and the supports available, and provide an opportunity to discuss this typically uncomfortable subject. "Listening to grief" by Maegan Parker Brooks reminds us that supporting those who are grieving isn't about finding the right words - it's about learning to listen. As Brooks beautifully explains, "Listening to grief is not a passive act, but rather an active process, wherein the listener carves out time, prepares for the conversation, and adapts to the needs of the bereaved, all the while cultivating a space and a disposition of openness." In our grief-avoidant culture, we can all learn to be better listeners and provide meaningful support to those who are bereaved. This skill is crucial for creating a more grief-informed society. We'd like to thank @Donna Schuurman for sharing this insightful article with us. We're also grateful to DOUGY CENTER FOR GRIEVING CHILDREN & FAMILIES, THE for being one of our expert contributors at Help Texts, and for training volunteers and countless others like Maegan in grief-informed practices. ❓Question: How do you heal from grief? 💬 Answer: You don’t. And that’s okay. We live in a culture that pathologizes grief, expecting people to “move on” from loss and neatly package up their complex emotions. But that’s not how it works! Join us on Wednesday at 12 pm ET for an Instagram Live chat with Sarah Hines. Through her work at Grief Advocacy, Sarah helps individuals and groups cultivate healthier relationships with grief. She’ll tell us about her work, and what needs to happen to break the stigma surrounding bereavement. Make sure to join us on Instagram at @viiveplanning! Hope to see you there! #AgingandEndofLifePlanning #LegacyPlanning #AgingPlanning #EndofLifePlanning #EstatePlanning #FinancialPlanning

Everyone deserves to feel like this when they're doing the work they love ;-) But seriously, while one-on-one work is deeply fulfilling, and I have such a tender place in my heart for my clients, community grief tending is what we need more of. And it's a joy to be in partnership with the Philly Goat Project, bringing grief walks in nature to the public. #griefwork #griefsupport #griefcoaching #beyourowngoat

📢 Important Survey Results on Grief in Canada 📢 The Canadian Grief Alliance (@GriefAllianceCA) has released findings from the largest-ever survey on grief in Canada, with nearly 4,000 respondents sharing their experiences. The survey highlights that many people want to be asked about their loss, yet society often fails to respond this way. What key findings in the photo surprised you the most? Have you experienced grief this way or differently? How You Can Help: 1. Reach Out: If you know someone who is grieving, ask them about their loss. Your support can make a significant difference. 2. Educate Yourself: Learn how to effectively support those who are grieving. Knowledge is power. 3. Be an Advocate: Champion initiatives that improve grief counselling and public education on grief. These findings will inform a National Action Plan for Grief, set to be presented to the federal government in 2025. Let’s #makegriefapriority. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gC3JWUH8 #GriefandLoss
