Dual enrollment holds the power to transform educational pathways for underrepresented students, opening doors to college earlier and paving the way for long-term success. But to unlock its full potential, colleges must lean on data. By analyzing enrollment trends, completion rates, and student outcomes, institutions can identify gaps in access and success, particularly for underserved populations. Data can reveal which students are benefiting most from dual enrollment and where additional support is needed to close equity gaps. This recent article from CC Daily highlights what underrepresented students are looking for in dual enrollment programs—and how to ensure these opportunities lead to real student success. https://lnkd.in/gR3Eddvd #DualEnrollment #StudentSuccess #Equity #CommunityCollege #Comm_college #HigherEducation #HigherEd #CommunityColleges

This article got me thinking about my new vlog with Suzanne Greenfield. As #educators, we know that "teachers know what they need. They know what works," and students are equally capable of identifying what supports their learning journey. The recent insights into the pandemic's impact on K-12 students highlight the challenges our education system faces. Despite these hurdles, district #leaders are working hard to help #students discover fulfilling careers while maintaining core skills. Initiatives like academic recovery efforts and competency-based education models underscore the need to adapt to diverse student needs. We must remain dedicated to creating environments where every student can thrive, whether through traditional pathways or more unconventional methods. Let's empower educators, support students, and pave the way for a brighter future. Stay tuned for our conversation with Suzanne Greenfield. #k12 #equityandinclusion #equityineducation #teachers #schools #education

“More time gives #students more opportunities to learn and to develop bonds with #teachers and peers, allows teachers more flexibility to meet individual students where they are, and can accelerate learning.” Research suggests that extended learning models can help get students back on track post-pandemic. But they are not without unique challenges for educators and policymakers. Learn more from FutureEd at Georgetown: https://lnkd.in/eh3wYAbj #EdChat #K12 #SchoolLeaders

“By taking things off teachers’ plates that aren’t forwarding student learning, we leave them with the mental bandwidth they need to bring their best to their students.” 💯 A timely reminder from Mark C. Perna in Forbes about both the state of education and what we as edtech providers ultimately need to be doing - providing a product that truly reduces workload for teachers and gets them back to doing what they do best. With 78% of teachers using This is School saying that we saved them time on setting and marking work, it's safe to say we're ticking this box (whilst also forwarding student learning, as 97% of teachers would recommend us based on student progress, but that's for a different post) - but 2024 will certainly be a year to continue building on this as we introduce new subjects, reach new students, and support even more schools. #education #teachers #edtech

Dug into new #research on Time in School from Matthew A. Kraft and Sarah Novicoff. This is a pretty sophisticated analysis of how we think about school time-- really appreciated how the authors push beyond pure "total time" at the level of the institution to thinking about actual #activelearning time at the level of student. They include a pretty juicy case study on time in one #district showing how time gets eroded... PPSD high schoolers lost about 25% of their #time, mostly to things like interruptions and student and teacher absences. Ultimately, the authors offer ideas for how policy-makers might eliminate some of the disparities in time access (consistency across states, 4-day weeks not suggested!) as well as how to think about protecting and improving existing time use for active learning. My biggest takeaway is that it's *active* time that matters, and we have to talk about that. There are a couple of ideas in here that are compelling (target learning time when kids learn best, such as later for older kids), but we waste so much time in our current group-level structures. Even with the depth of analysis, and blunt policy mechanisms discussed, the authors rightly couldn't really get into more nuanced things like the efficiency of instruction or wasted time spent on topics already mastered. We could do so much more, with less. "Time, like money, is necessary for supporting student academic success. Evidence demonstrates that schools can leverage additional time to improve students’ academic success. But when time is used ineffectively or in ways unaligned with academic goals, it will produce little benefits for students."
