TEC Hong Kong recently welcomed students from the Creativity in Entrepreneurial Challenges Programme at our Three Garden Road Centre. This initiative, organised by the HKMU Business School, helps secondary school students discover new perspectives, nurture an entrepreneurial mindset, and foster innovative thinking. During this engaging session, the students actively explored our premium workspaces and learned how a professional environment can enhance productivity and innovation. Here are some key takeaways: 🧑💻 Choose the Right Environment: A professional setting provides the structure and resources essential for growth and innovation. It boosts networking opportunities, enhances credibility, and fosters a productive atmosphere. When selecting a workspace, consider location, accessibility, and essential business amenities. High-quality technology infrastructure, including IT support, ergonomic design, and collaborative spaces, can streamline operations, reduce costs, and encourage innovation. 🙋 Maximise Your Space: Flexible workspaces offer more than a productive environment. They provide a supportive community, scalable spaces, and professional business and IT support, allowing entrepreneurs to focus on core activities. To maximise these benefits, engage with the community by participating in workshops and events. Utilise shared amenities like meeting rooms and breakout areas to your advantage. #Learning #Careers #Entrepreneurship

Our destiny lies in Hong Kong’s continued viability as a global financial centre. Let’s think globally and construct “bridges” that span continents. Hong Kong should become a place where cultures converge, #entrepreneurial spirit flourishes, and the heartbeat of the world pulses with energy —once again. 🌟𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲: 1. Hong Kong’s traditional sectors—banking, finance, and legal services — form a strong foundation. Now, let’s embrace entrepreneurship and take calculated risks. Seek resources and funding to turn workable ideas into viable businesses. 2. 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹: Hong Kong boasts of top universities and research institutions. However, breakthroughs often remain confined within academic walls. True pioneers don’t merely theorise; they bring ideas to life. 𝗦𝗘𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗟𝗔𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗛 There are few entrepreneurs. Even fewer survive the first two years of business. And only a select few are bold enough to expand beyond their borders. I had the privilege of spending the morning with promising companies at the Toronto Region Board of Trade, World Trade Centre Toronto. These companies are gearing up for international expansion. I shared my own experiences working in different countries—my learnings, failures, and successes. Here are a few of my key insights: 🗺 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝘆-𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁. You’ll need to revise customer profiles, solutions, and communication strategies for each market. 🗺 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱. New markets will present surprises and obstacles you won’t see coming. 🗺 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. This is often overlooked, but failing to understand local cultures can have serious consequences. I’m excited to see these companies thrive on the global stage! Thank you Noor Harbi, Darshini Raghuram and Dave Archer for the organization of the TAP Accelerator program. 🇨🇳 A week in one of the biggest cities in the world - Shanghai! 🏯 What an unforgettable experience! I had the opportunity to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summer School in Shanghai at Tongji University and it was nothing short of transformative. 🌱 Our focus? Tackling #environmentalchallenges through innovation. We spent an intense week working alongside passionate and like-minded individuals from around the world, brainstorming, collaborating and pushing the boundaries of what's possible. The experience was a powerful reminder that #entrepreneurship isn't just about business - it's about creating a better future for us all. 🤲 One of our Chinese professors shared a quote that really stuck with me: "The best way to predict the future is to create it." This resonated deeply as we worked in teams to bring our ideas to life. 🌟 But the week wasn't all hard work. I fell in love with the vibrant culture, people and rich history of #Shanghai. Although the language barrier was real (and sometimes hilarious! 😅), it didn't stop us making deep connections and learning so much from each other! 💚 Huge thank you – 谢谢 – Shanghai! I'll definitely be back to explore more of this country. Until then, I'll take all these lessons and experiences with me, ready to create the future. 🙏 Thanks to Global Entrepreneurship Summer School and Social Entrepreneurship Akademie for organising this incredible experience and making it all possible. #climatechange #personalgrowth #internationalexchange

ZITF 2024 THEME BROADENED • The ZITF Company, organisers of the highly anticipated Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, scheduled to take place in Bulawayo from 23-27 April 2024, are excited to announce a broadened focus for the event. While the core commitment to supporting industry, commerce and overall economic development remains, the 2024 theme has been expanded to, “Innovation: The Catalyst to Industrialisation and Trade.” • The new theme recognizes that innovation and entrepreneurship are complementary forces that work together to open pathways to economic growth and progress. Entrepreneurs leverage innovation to create successful businesses, while innovation thrives through the adaptability and risk appetite of entrepreneurs. • This theme also recognizes that Zimbabwe currently boasts a vibrant and growing innovation scene, largely because of Government initiatives as espoused in the guiding Vision 2030 whose focus is on promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, equitable development, and prosperity for all. • We are also cognizant of the vital role that innovation plays not only in driving industrialization and trade, but also in ensuring a sustainable future for our planet. By focusing on innovative solutions, we aim to equip businesses with the tools and strategies they need to thrive in an ever-evolving global landscape. • In addition to the multiplicity of sectors traditionally represented at ZITF, the broadened focus acknowledges the need to encompass a wider range of topics and widen the catchment of exhibiting companies to include those involved in: o Disruptive innovation and its impact on various industries, o Harnessing the power of digitalization for sustainable growth, o Grassroots innovation and tech start-ups, o Green technologies and eco-friendly business practices, o Creative initiatives that drive social responsibility and inclusive development, o Learning from and leveraging- opportunities synergies with international trading partners. • Meanwhile, as preparations for the international, multi-sectoral tradeshow are heading to a climax, the uptake by exhibitors has been quite pleasing. We are currently sitting at 98% of space capacity with 517 exhibitors who have taken up 48,881sqm square metres of the set aside 49,499 Square metres. • All exhibition halls and individual pavilions are now full and we will be erecting a marquee to house the many exhibitors who have been put on the waiting list. • International participation is also very strong. To date, we have confirmed exhibits from 27 countries namely: Botswana, Belarus, Brazil, People’s Republic of China, Kingdom of Eswatini, European Union, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Iran, Japan, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America and Zambia.

Unlocking Hong Kong's Business Potential: How Government Creativity can accelerate the City's Growth and help business. Hong Kong's Chief Executive, John Lee stressed city's creativity in support of our future; this includes all of us. Reflecting on the Business and Services Promotion Unit (BSPU) of 1996/1997, the visionary Helping Business Programme identified and solved challenges faced by businesses. This was recognition that government services must evolve via a more pro-active approach and where creativity did not exist it was engaged from outside. Of course Fire Services and Police Force (services) may need less creativity; however any government department should still prioritise “service” and help. This is paramount because enforcing or executing procedures or regulations rigidly is often unhelpful. If we shift our mindset towards service, help and creativity we get enhanced responsiveness and better problem-solving in all government structures. Hong Kong's reputation as a business hub is well known however inefficiencies hinder growth so Departments need the resources and flexibility to address them fast and a “complaint” or “response” based approach to change is insufficient. Streamlining initiatives, like any application process, removes obstacles to business development and this writer just had an excellent interaction with the Transport Department : responsive, polite and efficient at problem solving; a true service based approach. Broader creative change adds to Hong Kong's appeal as a business destination and collaboration between departments and the public via a proactive stance towards innovation is crucial. By adding a “services promotion unit” to initiatives like InvestHK, the government could modernise and unlock the city's full potential; in 1996/1997 alone the BSPU claimed to have worked on 15 studies resulting in 70 recommendations! Multiple initiatives are underscored by past successes that I have seen including a team I was on that streamlined an ancient (and slow) food licensing processes. The BSPU study reduced complexity and delay for businesses in the food and beverage sector; other areas of change truly enhanced Hong Kong's business environment. Creativity is a pressing need right now including government willingness to be ‘creative’ to support business growth; by fostering a service-oriented mindset, streamlining processes and embracing change; government can help unlock the city's full potential as a vibrant business destination and see it thrive in the modern era. How about another Business and Services Promotion Unit or Helping Business Programme? https://lnkd.in/ghztP-2K #HongKongGovernment #BusinessInnovationHK #CreativityInGovernment #BusinessDevelopment #HongKongEconomy #GovernmentEfficiency #ServiceOrientedApproach #BusinessModernization #InnovationInitiatives #HongKongBusinessEnvironment
