UX recruiting in 2024: (Just seen this posting on LinkedIn) - Senior UX Designer - £36,000/yr - £42,000/yr - United Kingdom - On-site, mid-senior level - 97 applicants Who's applying for this? it cannot be a "proper" senior UX person. UX recruitment is broken. We have to fix this. - Companies paying 36-40k for a senior. - Another company paying 90k. - Poor matching of quality candidates. It leads to unsuccessful design teams, junior people in senior roles, spreading through the market and breeding a culture of average. Everything starts with bringing in the right people. 36-40k will not get you a proper senior UX person in the UK. Note: I know 36-40k out of the tech world is the average salary. I'm using figures to show you the confusion in hiring the right UX talent currently.

Hiring managers: I’m sorry you only have X amount of UX experience in the position we’re hiring for. Designer: 🥹 The path to design isn't always linear. Unlike traditional professions, design attracts passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds. But is this diversity in design truly leveraged in practice? While this struggle continue in the undercurrents, I’ll make an advocate for multidisciplinary folks. In Harvard Business Review, data shows that with inherent and acquired diversity, there is 45% more likely to report market share growth. https://shorturl.at/hRX67 Multidisciplinary designers can consider user needs from multiple angles, creating more holistic experiences for your customers. Isn't that what innovation demands? Your customers are multifaceted, so should your designer. #HiringDesigners #UXCommunity #DesignLeadership

I was speaking to a Senior Product Designer last week who was going through some of the woes he’s had navigating the market – with particular reference to some of the recruiters managing roles he was interested in... Part of his response below… 🤯😩 “For example, I’ve had recruiters ask me to explain the difference between UX and UI design, or even what the job itself entails. One recruiter’s response when I asked if they knew what a UX designer does was, "Making pretty pictures." Unfortunately, that’s a true story, and this person was supposed to present me for a position with (one of the biggest tech consultancies out there).” 📢 I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… if you’re not using specialist recruiters (genuinely specialist) for specialist roles, then its very likely the ones you are using will contribute to skill dilution within the market… not to mention make frustrating for all involved. Make the effort folks – it’ll be worth it, I promise! 🙏 ✨look after your market now, so that it can look after you in the future✨ #recruitment #specialist #productdesign #ux #ui #talentaquisition

Staff Product & Design Recruiter @ Wave Talent | Founder of “SheDesignsProduct” | Co-Founder at Design Leaders | 58 LinkedIn Recommendations
I’m going to put a prediction out there. In the near future, companies will revert back to hiring for UX Designers, Visual Designers etc far more commonly as opposed to a team of just Product Designers. So often, I speak with design leaders who’ll say things like: 👉 “We’re crying out for designers with super strong UI skills.” 👉 “There’s a lack of mixed method research abilities in our team.” 👉 “At the moment our design team are too focused on UI and shipping as quickly as possible, we need a few UX heavyweights.” Will specialist hires make a comeback and become more common?

This has been a hot topic in the design world. There's been a lot of discussion about the role of junior designers in the industry. It's clear that there are plenty of talented juniors out there, but it seems like many companies aren't fully tapping into their creativity and fresh perspectives. Thanks to ⚡️Zander Whitehurst for raising this important issue. I believe it's time for companies to start embracing the potential of junior designers and giving them real opportunities to contribute to project development and success. And also, when it comes to hiring designers, location shouldn't be a deal-breaker. If someone's the right fit for a remote position, let's give them a chance, regardless of where they're based. Happy Designing Solutions! 😁✑✍︎💻 #uxdesigner #hiring #hr #hiringmanager #designer #adeokliq
Stop only hiring senior designers Every afternoon I spend 3hr speaking to Design Leads around the world. The consensus? Their teams are nearly 100% senior which is a mega problem. It’s time to bring balance back to design by hiring more juniors. Agree? #ux #ui #design #productdesign #career
