🌊 "Seaweed social business" Yunus Thailand is proposing a capacity-building approach to unlock the potential of seaweed for the empowerment of low-income coastal communities, particularly women. Building on the outcomes of the GSC supported Safe Seaweed Thailand project, the project shall develop product and value chain innovation for a self-sustaining and scalable model focusing on the commercially underutilized Caulerpa racemosa and C. lentifillera species. High value nutritional, and safe seaweed products shall be innovated, increasing income for seaweed farming communities while generating profits to be reinvested in technical assistance, conservation and natural stock replenishment, and public education. At Purpose, I've learned that the way to get most effective social change is work closely with the leaders we all trust and respect. Faith leaders are amongst those. So exciting to see this article in NYT highlighting the remarkable initiatives driving "Green Islam" in Indonesia. Very chuffed that something like this made it to the centre of the front page this morning! Our MOSAIC partners and a key project of solarising mosques under "Sedekah Energi," have been featured prominently in the piece. The article showcases the power of grassroots communities to drive a just energy transition and actively participate in shaping it. One minute I was in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 specializing in Local Development Strategies, the next minute I am in the heart of rural Baringo County 🇰🇪 in Mlango Moja, Mumberes area hosting a training on Agroecology 🌱 for the Ogiek Indigenous Community under Koibatek Ogiek Women and Youth Network - KOWYN The Kwombereriet Ogiek women's group welcomed us so warmly. Their self determination for cultural revitalization and protection of their natural heritage ✨ is refreshing. The Ogiek are the original protectors of the Mau Forest practicing underground bee 🐝 keeping, hunting and gathering. Following forced evictions and concessions from their customary land by the government, they are experiencing systemic marginalization. Additionally, since they are a minority, they are not recognized in the national development agenda. Together with Guotai Junan, I went on a journey to not only plant trees but also plant seeds of environmental awareness deep in the hearts of our communities. This journey showed how ESG principles are connected to community engagement in a very complex way. Every shovelful of dirt and every tree twig placed was a way to invest in nature and make the community stronger. 🌳 This wasn't just as an environmental project; it was a celebration of community unity, making ties stronger and bringing people together in the neighborhood. 🇨🇮 Happy Independence Day, Côte d'Ivoire! 🎉 Today, August 7th, marks 64 years of independence for this beautiful West African nation. As an expat who has had the privilege of calling Côte d'Ivoire home for close to two decades, I want to take a moment to celebrate this vibrant country and reflect on the incredible journey we've shared. My career journey here began in diverse industries until I fou nd my new love, CASHEW! 😍 Did you know Côte d'Ivoire is the world's largest exporter of raw cashew nuts? I've had the honor of working alongside dedicated farmers, innovative processors, and visionary leaders who are transforming the cashew sector: • Participated in initiatives to increase local processing, adding value and creating jobs • Collaborated on sustainability projects, improving farmer livelihoods and environmental practices But my Ivorian experience goes beyond cashews. This country has so many lessons. Living and working here has taught me: 1. Resilience in the face of challenges 2. The power of community in driving change 3. The importance of sustainable development 4. The richness that comes from cultural diversity To my Ivorian colleagues, friends, and partners: Thank you for your hospitality, your insights, and your friendship.
