Exciting #news: We are proud to announce the launch of a new community eye health program in Kenya's West Pokot County, powered by Peek Vision’s innovative software and data intelligence platform! 👁️ This strategic partnership will use cutting-edge technology to improve eye health services and improve access to them for under-served communities across Kenya and beyond... With Peek’s smartphone vision screening tools, local providers will be able to identify patients in schools and communities, track their treatment journey, and send automated text reminders to ensure follow-up care. . Importantly, the tools help follow up with patients who haven't accessed care, giving useful insights into barriers to care and helping make more adaptive and effective eye health programs. 📲✨ "As an eye surgeon in rural Kenya, I witness the immense need for quality eye care every day. We’re excited to partner with The Fred Hollows Foundation and connect even more people to life-changing treatment,” said Dr. Hillary Rono, Peek Vision’s Kenya Country Director. This initiative is a key step in our mission to make eye care accessible to all, and we’re proud to be working with Peek Vision to achieve it! 🙌 📷: Peek Vision's technology in use in the field in Kenya. #eyehealth #community #health #innovation #Kenya #vision #partnership

Our vision is for a world in which no person is needlessly blind or visually impaired.
About us
The Fred Hollows Foundation is inspired by the work of the late Professor Fred Hollows (1929-1993). Working in more than 25 countries, our vision is for a world where no one is needlessly blind, and Indigenous Australians enjoy the same health and life expectancy as other Australians. Fred believed local people were best placed to deliver health care to their communities. The Foundation seeks to strengthen and sustain local systems, both internationally and in our Indigenous Australia Program. We bring resources, knowledge and capacity building to partners who contribute their own knowledge, capabilities and resources. We work together to achieve our ambitious goal. Authorised by A. Our Cambodia team were joined this week by a delegation from USAID and ATscale, the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology and together discussed the next stage of the Scaling Refractive Error Services project in Cambodia that takes a market-shaping approach to delivering quality RE services across the country. By building strong partnerships and leveraging innovative strategies, we are taking an evidence-based approach to making quality eye care accessible to communities that need it most. This mission reaffirmed the importance of sustainable, scalable solutions in improving the eye health of populations in need. A huge thank you to our local partners, teams on the ground, and everyone involved in making this possible. Together, we are creating a future where vision impairment is not a barrier but an opportunity for all. ping Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc., Amanda Davis, Beatrice Varga, Tokyo Bak #EyeHealth #Cambodia #AssistiveTechnology #School #MarketShaping #RefractiveError #USAID #ATscale #GlobalHealth #SustainableDevelopment #partnership

#NEWS: "Leaving such a great organisation is sad but life is always filled with beginnings and endings," says our CEO Ian Wishart who will leave The Fred Hollows Foundation next year. "It's been an honour and privilege to serve as just the third CEO of The Foundation and to pursue our inspiring vision of a world in which no person is needlessly blind or vision impaired," he added. Our Acting Chair Michael Johnson says the search for a new CEO is underway and expected to conclude early next year, with Ian continuing in his role until the end of June. We are deeply grateful for Ian's leadership over the past seven years, during which we've made an unprecedented impact and earned a workplace culture award. #NEWS: The redeployment of resources to combat the spread of COVID-19 during the pandemic may have worsened gender inequity in eye health, according to a new report we helped put together. Together with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), we reviewed data on eye health systems in 26 countries and found the pandemic's impact led to significant cataract treatment backlogs that may take years to clear. This is what saving sight in Ethiopia looks like! At just one eye screening camp in the Oromia region, hundreds of people had their eyes checked. And last year alone, we treated more than 6 million people with antibiotics for trachoma.
