💡 Resilience and emotional regulation seem to be some of the best lessons we can teach our children. They develop patterns of thoughts and behaviours based on how we react to their experiences throughout their childhood which they then apply to future situations. https://lnkd.in/ehzsfN7q

I can be hard on myself at times—much harder on myself than on others. Nurturing self-compassion has helped me soften toward myself and, in doing so, view myself with a kinder lens. Kristen Neff explains, “Tender self-compassion is the capacity that allows us to be with ourselves just as we are—comforting and reassuring ourselves that we aren’t alone, as well as validating our pain. It has the gentle, nurturing quality of a mother toward a newborn child.” A useful technique for being kinder to yourself is to think about how you might respond to a good friend or a young child if they were beating themselves up about something. Just noticing how differently we speak to ourselves and beginning to adjust that to something kinder and gentler is an excellent way to start building compassion toward ourselves. Loving-kindness meditations have been very helpful for me in cultivating self-compassion. Incorporating one into your routine is an excellent way to develop self-compassion as a tangible practice.

I have conversations that bring clarity to your story and change it for the better. Artist of Conversations: Supervisor, Coach, Counsellor and Visual Artist. DM me if you would like more info.
Late 20s: 20,000 words dissertation written, reviewed and submitted: 6 months Early 40s: 2000 words essay written, reviewed and (almost) submitted: 5 months Difference: In one scenario I was a single, male with no attachments In the other, my wife had just had a emergency c section, I'd welcomed my child into the world and I already had a delightful 2.5 year old. -- I note that men can often compare their lives now to their 20s The pace and ease with which they could complete what they set out to do. Often, these same men are taking little account of the changes in their life. Their beautiful wives and kids, the greater responsibility for aging parents and the simple fact they're older (sometimes wiser). Using a systemic lens helps to understand your capacity within your current context. If you need a conversation that helps you reimagine your life now, with your new responsibilities and refrains those niggling doubts about why you can't achieve what you once did; send me a message and find out more about me at https://lnkd.in/ebC3YbkD

I was just speaking with a nephew two days ago about presenting speeches and the importance of gaining experience as a speaker. I'm all for ice cream, but the important thing is providing individuals with valuable foundations and experience at a younger age. Do your schools provide children with a variety of experiences that will prepare them well for the future? #education #educationalleadership #publicspeaking #training #practicepracticepractice
