The Shoprite Group of Companies has elevated its renewable energy consumption by nearly twofold, reaching 103,234 MWh compared to the previous year’s 54,138MWh. This achievement stems from a 91% increase in acquiring renewable energy from landlords and other suppliers. Sanjeev Raghubir, Shoprite Group’s CSI & Sustainability Manager, emphasizes the urgency of climate action, especially in Africa, a continent bearing disproportionate impacts despite contributing the least to global greenhouse gas emissions. Raghubir outlines the Group’s three-pronged approach, which encompasses consumption reduction, expanding renewable capacity, and collaborative electricity purchases with independent power producers (IPPs). Despite the commendable progress, the next step involves “wheeling” – buying electricity from an IPP through the existing transmission network, necessitating collaborative efforts to establish a national wheeling framework. GreenYellow's Arsenal Solar Plant: Mauritius' Renewable Energy Milestone 🇲🇺 🎉 Inaugurating Sustainability: The Arsenal solar power plant, developed by GreenYellow, stands as a landmark achievement in Mauritius' renewable energy journey, signaling a shift towards sustainability. Minister Georges-Pierre Lesjongard and officials celebrated its inauguration, emphasizing its significance in the country's energy transition. ⚡️ Clean Energy Contribution: Spanning 15 hectares, the plant will add 14 MWp of clean energy to Mauritius' grid, generating around 20 GWh annually, powered by Elum Energy's ePowerControl PPC & SCADA technology. It is sufficient to power 4,500 homes. Minister Lesjongard views this initiative as pivotal in reaching Mauritius' renewable energy targets of 35% by 2025 and 60% by 2030. 🌍 Decarbonisation Drive: With a considerable portion of Mauritius' energy sourced from oil and coal-powered thermal stations, projects like the Arsenal plant are essential for decarbonisation. Local entities like the Commercial Bank of Mauritius (MCB) have supported the endeavour, investing 350 million Mauritian rupees to advance the nation's sustainability goals. Congratulations to François-Hugues d'Aillières, Cyril Colin! #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #EnergyTransition
