Strengthening Gender Data for Peace and Security in the Great Lakes Region: Accessible and reliable gender data is essential for monitoring gaps, informing policy, and supporting evidence-based decisions across the Great Lakes Region. This week, we are proud to support the validation of the #ICGLR Gender Barometer, taking place in Tanzania. Developed by the #ICGLR Levy Mwanawasa Regional Centre, the Gender Barometer marks a critical step toward enhancing data collection and assessing progress in efforts to address sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). It is grounded in four principles—Participation, Prevention, Protection, and Relief and Recovery—which target the inequalities and challenges linked to Women, Peace, and Security (#WPS). Through our ‘Incorporating Local Perspectives in the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda’ (iWPS) project, GIZ is committed to advancing the WPS agenda by promoting the use of local, data-driven knowledge to shape regional policies, among other focus areas. We look forward to the validation of the Gender Barometer and the impactful changes to follow.  #Germancooperation #WPS #GenderData #GreatLakesRegion

✊ Empowering survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) is at the heart of an initiative launched by Health Poverty Action with support from #InvestforJobs in #Rwanda. Despite progress in laws and policies to address GBV, many survivors remain economically dependent on their abusers, trapped in cycles of violence. This program aims to break that cycle by providing GBV survivors with the skills needed for employment, especially in the tea sector.     📈 Since January 2023, over 3,800 survivors have undergone work-readiness and financial literacy training. Following this, more than 2800 participants received specialised tea plucking and processing training. As of July 2023, 2,534 survivors have secured jobs in tea estates, significantly boosting their financial independence.     🌱 The impact goes beyond employment. Many participants have also ventured into entrepreneurship, launching businesses in  tailoring, mobile money services, and modern farming. The tea estates have benefited from a production increase of up to 19 per cent thanks to the influx of skilled workers.     👥 This program demonstrates that economic empowerment can be a powerful tool in addressing GBV, providing survivors with the tools and confidence to rebuild their lives independently.      👉 🎥 Learn more about this transformative initiative and take a look at our video here: https://lnkd.in/eSXT2cV5

When Women Lead, Peace Follows Over 100 women leaders from across Africa gathered in Luanda, Angola, for a forum on Strengthening Women's Participation and Leadership in Peace and Security Processes in the Great Lakes Region. Hosted by H.E. João Lourenço, this event highlighted the crucial role women play as agents of peace and their unique perspectives in addressing the impact of conflict on women. Partner organizations, including #GIZ, were recognized for their continued support of peace initiatives in the region, reaffirming the importance of partnership in driving peace and security agendas forward.    A key takeaway from the forum was the need to strengthen grassroots organizations working on Women, Peace & Security (#WPS) initiatives. Through the "Incorporating Local Perspectives in the Implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in the Great lakes Region" (#iWPS) project, #GIZ is committed to ensuring that local women’s voices and perspectives are central to building lasting peace in the Great Lakes Region.  #Women #Peace #WPS #GreatLakesRegion #GermanCooperation

⚡🚗 Electric Mobility Forum: Accelerating Rwanda’s Shift to Sustainable Transport 🚲⚡ Hosted by the Rwandan Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in #Rwanda, the Electric Mobility Forum (October 23-24, 2024) brought together key stakeholders from government, industry, and international partners to shape the future of electric mobility in  Rwanda.                                              With 7% of vehicles imported now electric and Kigali hosting 17 of the country’s 22 charging stations, Rwanda is positioning itself as a regional leader in sustainable transport. Day 1 showcased Rwanda’s current state of progress, with companies such as Kabisa, Ampersand, IZI electric, and BasiGo sharing insights on charging networks, electric motorcycles, and public e- buses. Discussions emphasized public-private partnerships and investments as critical to scaling adoption. Day 2 started with a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities in the sector, followed by interactive breakout sessions focused on: 🔋 Financing electric mobility 📜 Policy and regulatory frameworks 👩🔧 Employment and capacity building The sessions identified actionable solutions to boost EV adoption, attract investments, and build technical capacity. A strong need became apparent to make EV policy solutions available to stakeholders across ministries and harmonize policies across GoR departments. The discussions reaffirmed the need to electrify public transport, expand cycle lanes, and develop walkable cities. The event closed with a clear message: Rwanda is driving toward a cleaner, greener future—one charge at a time! 🌍⚡  #ElectricMobility #RwandaEV #SustainableTransport #MININFRA #GIZ #FutureOfMobility#GermanCooperation🤝

🌟 Enhancing Gender Equality In Private Sector 🌟    On 23rd October 2024, GIZ’s Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) & Skills Development for Economic Transformation (SD4T) projects in partnership with Gender Monitoring Office and  Private Sector Federation (PSF) wrapped up two incredible days of intense learning and experience sharing as part of the Gender Equality Seal Coaches Training! 🚀    Together with passionate gender professionals, business minds and policymakers, we’ve delved deep into strategies, tools, and methodologies that will enable us to enhance gender principles in private companies – in particular small and medium sized businesses. This first phase was not only about building strong foundations for promoting gender equality across industries and sectors but also tackled the very technical aspects of how to engage private companies to embark on the Gender Equality Seal journey as well as conducting diagnosis to identify gender gaps.    But we're not done yet! 🎯 In November 2024, we’ll continue this journey with three more days of impactful sessions, where we’ll take our learnings even further, refining our approaches and preparing to bring real change to the business world.    A huge thank you to everyone who participated and shared their valuable insights. Let’s keep advancing gender equality in the private sector! 💪

Phase II of GIZ Rwanda's Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (PSGBV) Project Begins! 🎊 We are excited to kick off Phase II of our Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (PSGBV) project! Together with our partners, we are continuing to raise awareness on gender-based violence (#GBV) and supporting those affected, using the communication tools developed in Phase I to make a lasting impact. As part of this phase, we are introducing Flipbooks 📚 as a new communication tool to raise awareness on gender, GBV, referral systems, and services available at Isange One Stop Centers in Rwanda. The collection includes two flipbooks: - Book 1 defines gender-based violence and helps identify it. - Book 2 details the services offered at Isange One Stop Centers. These flipbooks are the result of a collaboration between GIZ Rwanda, Ministry of Gender & Family Promotion | Rwanda, Enabel, Rwanda's Biomedical Center, and a consortium of civil society organisations. Our joint goal is to establish equitable societies by educating citizens and supporting them in accessing essential services. Over the past few weeks, more than 50 technical experts from various governmental institutions and civil society organizations have been trained on using the Flipbook methodology to engage communities in discussions on all forms of #GBV. Working together to raise awareness and make a lasting difference! 💪 #EndGBV #PartnershipForChange Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Health Development Initiative (HDI) HAGURUKA Non Government Organization German Embassy in Kigali
