Backed by Y Combinator and also receiving a $1 million boost from Elemental Excelerator, C16 is on a mission to combat the environmental havoc caused by traditional palm oil production. Palm oil, found in everything from soaps to chocolates, has faced criticism for contributing to deforestation. C16, with its innovative use of yeast and agriculturally derived feedstocks, has already crafted an alternative for beauty products named #Palmless. With the fresh funding injection, C16 plans to revolutionize the food industry by developing new oil recipes using both waste stream and non-agriculturally derived feedstocks. CEO Shara Ticku envisions a future where feedstocks derived directly from carbon capture play a role in this eco-friendly revolution.
