Health and Safety law requires every employer to provide “adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel'' to administer immediate treatment of injuries and illnesses. The wording of this legislation is quite vague, potentially leaving employers asking themselves if they're doing enough. #HealthAndSafety #FirstAid #FirstAidAtWork

https://lnkd.in/gFDBUsEE The OSHA standards require employers to contact OSHA when an employee is admitted to the hospital for treatment due to a work injury. Thats like calling the police on yourself. So employers should be sure to do so only when required. In this episode of the Health & Safety Law Report, Abbie White and Douglas Jenks discuss OSHA's definition of "treatment." Do diagnostics count? How about an overnight stay in the hospital for observation? And what happens if the employer doesn't learn about an employee's treatment in the hospital until long after the work injury? Or what if the injured employee is not admitted to the hospital for several days after the work injury? Tune in to the Health & Safety Law Report to learn the answers to these and other burning questions.

Do we need more simplified legislation than the UK and Australia? I am always supportive of improving the way we do things around Health and Safety. That being said, our legislation is arguably a more modern revision of UK and Australian H&S legislation - both of which result in half the rates of workplace injury that we see here. If we replicated their incident rates, it would not only result in significantly less workplace injuries and deaths - it would likely save us 2 billion dollars a year. Perhaps table the Plant and Structures Regulations that has been gathering dust? Or enable ACC and WorkSafe to co-ordinate and actually hold Officers accountable for workplace injuries.
Health and Safety Law Consultation: Kiwis expect - and deserve - to have their family members return home safe and healthy at the end of every workday. Where we have to follow rules to keep ourselves or others safe, those rules should be clear, sensible and proportionate to the risk. This week I’ve announced that the Government will be simplifying health and safety laws. We want to hear from businesses and workers. Have your say as part of the consultation here: https://lnkd.in/gYnberuD

Avoid these most common unsafe work practices that cause accidents and injuries to help prevent causing harm to yourself and others. Unsafe work practices are actions, intended or not, that could result in accidents, injuries, or even death to the worker/s in the workplace. In order to protect workers from being harmed while at work, employers must comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) law and regulations. Some of these regulations include: providing the worker with a safe place to work. However, workplace accidents, and other types of incidents, do not happen because of the present hazards in the surroundings alone. In fact, anyone, no matter how skilled or trained, can commit safety mistakes in the workplace. #hseknowledge #safety #unsafework #hseenvironment #besafe #hseguide #worksafely .
