I think about this every day. I don't know how any human can fail to think about this every day; can fail to oppose this violent and immoral oppression; and most of all, how they can fail to make a pledge never to support it or participate in it. Actually, I do know "how" - the well-worn mechanics of oppression, of othering, of categorising beings that are and are not worthy of moral consideration (speciesism), and all the denial and savagely contradictory thinking that flows from these. Great to see how the Buck Island research is demonstrating the important role of ruminants in carbon sequestration and reducing global warming potential of our grasslands. 1. Grazing grassland increases root growth and reduces plant respiration. 2. Global warming potential of pasture with cattle on it is negative, giving off a cooling effect on our environment. 3. Such is the importance of cattle in reducing harmful emissions, pasture with no cattle on it is net emitting, meaning, not only is there no food being produced, more carbon and greenhouse gas equivalent are being emitted.

Fiber is the primary reason for growing cotton. But, the seeds are used for animal feed and human use (#cottonseed oil). How to get animal weight without using scale The most reliable information about the weight of an animal is obtained by the use of a weighing scale. A good weighing scale for cattle will cost you upward of about Sh210,000, which is out of reach for most small-scale farmers. In absence of a weighing scale an ordinary 3 metres tape measure is used. This tape gives the circumference measurements in centimetres which are then converted to kilogramme using a conversion table. For example: 135cm = 214kg 182cm = 500kg When taking measurements, the band/tape is placed just behind the front legs under the body behind the elbow and all the way around to the point behind the shoulder blade. It is important to note that the information acquired using these two methods is less accurate than the one obtained by the weighing.
