Great post Hart Hagan. The father of permaculture Bill Mollison, could not have said it any better. "The humid environment of the desert exists in the rumen of an animal. You can't have soil in the desert without having animals." To expand on this, healthy soils lead to an effective water cycle which prevents excess flooding and water scarcity among other symptoms of desertification that engineers are failing to solve with centralized structural practices. As such, you can't have effective flood control and water security in the desert without having animals. For more information, check out my previous post. We are working in an animal park and there are rats living in the trees. The dogs make it so much easier and faster to identify the occupied ones, instead of inspecting each of the individual trees. Day 32 of the latest live export crisis: thousands of animals STILL remain trapped inside the MV Bahijah. Official reports of hundreds of "healthy" cattle unloaded from the ship on Friday night have been followed by claims that some of these animals have died over the weekend. There are also official reports that an "unspecified" number of sheep have died on the ship. While those who seek to profit from the commodification of living, feeling beings think of these individuals as "numbers" — we know that behind every death there was unimaginable suffering and fear. And for every surviving animal forced to endure the conditions that have taken the lives of their friends, there is no end in sight... Our concerns remain that for the thousands of animals still stuck on-board the MV Bahijah, survival may be the cruellest outcome... as the Federal government decides whether or not to send them back out to sea to do it all over again. Live export subjects animals to a fate worse than death — and it has to end.
