In 2022, 24% of LGBTQ+ adults in America reported mistreatment or blame for their health problems from their care provider. Discrimination in healthcare only piles on to the emotional and physical stressors already felt by many in the LGBTQ+ community. That's why comprehensive health coverage with a wide range of services and access to care can provide the support your employees need. You can advance the well-being of your workplace community by offering personalized, inclusive whole-health care. Health education initiatives, an Employee Assistance Program for access to counseling and mental well-being, and established partnerships with healthcare providers are a few ways to promote the whole health of your employees. 🏳️🌈 As we honor #PrideMonth this June, it's crucial to reflect on the progress we've made and the work that still lies ahead in ensuring healthcare equity for the #LGBTQ+ community. The latest survey by the National Coalition on LGBTQ Health sheds light on the current state of LGBTQ+ health and underscores the importance of accessible and inclusive healthcare for all. The survey reveals critical insights into the health disparities faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, including barriers to care, discrimination, and mental health challenges. These findings highlight the urgent need for healthcare systems to prioritize inclusivity and actively work to eliminate these disparities. As professionals, advocates, and allies, we have a responsibility to champion policies and practices that promote health equity. Pride Month is an opportunity to recommit to creating a healthcare environment where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, feels safe, respected, and cared for. ⬇ Learn more about the survey and its findings here: https://lnkd.in/gf9fc-mf #PrideMonth #LGBTQHealth #InclusiveHealthcare #HealthEquity #GenderEquity #NationalCoalitionOnLGBTQHealth #HealthcareForAll

Allyship is more than just a label. It's about supporting, respecting, and advocating for individuals of marginalized communities. While the term 'ally' is often used as a corporate or social badge, true allyship means challenging disrespectful statements that undermine its essence. Phrases like 'Why can't you take a joke?' or 'Not everything is personal' are not just rude—they subtly degrade individuals in the LGBTQ+ community and those with disabilities. Using humor or gestures as a guise for hatred is fundamentally inhumane and contradicts all ethical standards, especially in the workplace. To foster an inclusive and respectful environment, we need to actively advocate for allyship, starting in the workplace and extending to all aspects of society. Be an ally and watch the world around you change. Share your allyship stories with us in the comments below. #TrueAllyship #SupportAndRespect #AdvocateForChange #InclusiveWorkplace #LGBTQAlly #DisabilityInclusion #EndDiscrimination #StandAgainstHate #WorkplaceDiversity #RespectForAll #Rainmaker

Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia – a day created to draw attention to the violence and inequities that LGBTQ+ communities continue to experience and the need to do more allyship work to cultivate equity and safety for LGBTQ+ communities. As cisgender and hetero allies, we must use our voices and actions to call out homophobia, transphobia, biphobia and more and support our LGBTQ+ colleagues, friends, family members, and neighbors – not only today but every day. There’s so much more work to do here! For example, and as you’ll have heard me mention in the past, did you know that until May 17th, 1990, homosexuality was considered a mental health disorder in the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Diseases? That’s just under 35 years ago!!! 🤯 Let’s keep fighting the fight today and every day, especially given the anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and violence that we’re seeing out there! If you want to learn more about allyship, you can download my tip sheet on how to be a better ally in the workplace: https://lnkd.in/g_bznzSc #allyship #LGTBQ+ #equity

Human Resources professional passionate about creating a positive work culture through diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility.
There have been a few pieces of good news recently in advancing protections for the LGBTQ+ community, among them: LGBTQ+ youth in foster care cannot be subjected to conversion therapy, the United Methodist Church overturned their 40-year ban on LGBTQ+ clergy and performing ceremonies, and HHS put in place an expansive set of rules protecting individuals from discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation when seeking care. However, the work is far from over. Conversion therapy is still happening, there is a shortage of LGBTQ+-affirming foster care placements, violence toward LGBTQ+ community members remains ever-present, and according to The Trevor Project, LGBTQ+ individuals are more than four times more likely to attempt suicide than their peers. Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia and the month of May is Mental Health Awareness month. I urge you to check on those you hold dear, amplify voices of those at the center, and do all you can to ensure LGBTQ+ individuals are seen, honored, and safe because we are #StrongerTogether #IDAHTB #MentalHealthAwareness
