*Liberals of Renew lose third place in the European Parliament!* 🇪🇺 Since the results of the European elections on June 9, the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group has taken third place in the European Parliament, surpassing the liberal Renew Europe group, which includes French elected officials from Renaissance. 📊 **New figures:** - **ECR**: 83 MEPs - Increase thanks to the arrival of Marion Maréchal (Reconquête!) and five Romanian nationalists (AUR). - **Renew Europe**: 74 MEPs 👥 **Comparison of main political forces:** - **European People's Party (EPP)**: 190 seats (center-right) - **Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D)**: 137 seats (center-left) - **European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR)**: 83 seats - **Renew Europe**: 74 seats 🔍 **Implications:** - The third-place position in the European Parliament is crucial, as it offers more posts and influence within the EU institutions. - This loss could reduce the influence of Emmanuel Macron's liberals in decisions and appointments within the European Parliament. 🌐 **#EuropeanElections #EuropeanParliament #ECR #RenewEurope** 🌐

The Right Advances in European Parliament Elections: What Does This Mean for the World? Yesterday, the European Parliament elections confirmed a significant increase in the influence of the far-right in the European Union. Far-right parties achieved notable victories in several countries, including France, Italy, and the Netherlands, and emerged as the leading force in some of them. This raises important questions about the impact this will have on global politics and international institutions. The far-right has made significant gains in the EU, with parties like Marine Le Pen's party in France, Giorgia Meloni's party in Italy, and Matteo Salvini's party in Italy. This translates into increased representation for these parties in the European Parliament, which will certainly start to influence, though not yet define, the political and economic decisions of the EU. This trend is beginning to gain traction in various parts of the world. Are we witnessing the beginning of a political-economic paradigm shift that will ultimately influence the functioning and interrelations of societies worldwide? What are your thoughts? #europeanunion #politics #lepen #economics #politica #UE #libertad #parliament #france #germany #freedom #Policy #Impact #Political #Analysis #ElectoralOutcomes #DemocracyinEurope #ConservativePolitics #GeopoliticalImplications #EuropeanParliament #PopulisminEurope #PoliticalShift #NationalistParties #EUPolitics #Euroscepticism #RightwingSurge

After a very turbulent few years, populism remains a defining feature of ongoing electoral politics in Europe and the world. This year can be seen as a major tipping point for the role of populist parties, left and right, as looming National Parliamentary Elections are on the way, as well as the European Parliamentary Elections in June. This evening, scholars Sarah de Lange, Robin de Bruin and Brian Burgoon will discuss the different aspects of populist politics in Europe and the world. https://lnkd.in/ey2Qhfye

As our attention is focussed on the French and British elections this week, EU affairs professionals will look to Strasbourg next week where the European Parliament (EP) will hold its first plenary session of the new legislative term from 16th to 19th July. Ahead of that meeting, the newly-elected Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will form political groups, with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban aiming to establish a new group - the “Patriots for Europe” - which still requires the backing from at least four Member States. Next week, the newly elected MEPs will elect their President, vice-presidents and quaestors as well as decide on the number of MEPs who will be sitting in each parliamentary committee. Each EP political groups will then appoint full members and substitutes to each committees, and at a later stage MEPs will hold committee meetings and elect chairs and vice-chairs for a period of two-and-a-half years. The committees are scheduled to meet from 22nd to 25th July. We will share more information in due time. #europeanparliament #euaffairs #meps Construction Products Europe aisbl

French election results indicate that the Le Pen brand remains too toxic for the National Rally (RN) to expand its electoral base. What we are seeing is also maybe for the first time fragmentation within RN, as they are analyzing reasons for failure in the 2nd round of French elections. At the same time, we see that different political forces in France are building capacity for coalition building and supporting common candidates. This will most likely play an important role in the upcoming French Presidential elections. This and many other issues were discussed in detail over the weekend. It was a great pleasure to have Martens Centre's yearly conference Think-In in Munich, hosted by the Hans Seidel Foundation, presented by Hanns Seidel Foundation European Brussels Office, where we discussed current political developments, including the pressing challenges facing the European Union, the above-mentioned French elections, foreign policy, defence, economy, and demography. We had especially interesting input from an external expert, Doru Peter Frantescu CEO and founder of EU Matrix, about the voting patterns in the European Parliament. Carl Udo Zolleis, Head of the EPP Group Strategy, gave an excellent analysis of the European political dynamics of the upcoming five years. We also discussed the US elections and the situation with President Biden's candidature. One scenario is that Biden is delaying his dropping out of the race until late July or early August to ensure that Kamala Harris will become the Democratic candidate without a challenger. What do you think will happen to Biden's candidacy? #EU #strategy #Politics Thomas Leeb Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies Margherita Movarelli Julian Bonnici Panagiotis Kakolyris Marina Skordeli Eoin Drea, PhD Dimitar Lilkov Vít Novotný Dr George Vital Zammit marc Janssens Thomas Belligh Stere Stamule Jens Ahl Karl Sander Kase Fernando Sols Gonçalo Carriço Nathan Shepura Mark Strand Anna Nalyvayko Anna Rozniatowska-Fidos Gavin Synnott Panos Tasiopoulos Katerina Jakimovska Dr. Peter Hefele
