Epidemiology of Coarctation of the Aorta (CoA): CoA is found in about 5–8% of patients with congenital heart disease. 2–5 times more common in males. There is clearly a genetic component, occurring in, at least, 4% of the offspring of women with CoA. Linkage analysis studies suggest a genetic susceptibility locus on chromosomes 2p23, 10q21, and 16p12. CoA is also present in 12–17% of patients with Turner’s syndrome who are at high risk of aortic dissection. #CardioVasc #cardiology #Cardio #cardiovascular

Background: Few studies have investigated catatonia or adequately elucidated its epidemiology or pathophysiology. Catatonia is a debilitating neuropsychiatric syndrome.  Case presentation: In this case report, we present a 15-year-old boy who was brought to the emergency room with weakness, gait disturbance, and urinary incontinence. Conclusion: The findings of this investigation indicate that in cases where medicinal intervention has proven ineffective, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) seems to be a commendable substitute form of treatment. #Catatonia, #UrinaryIncontinence, #Adolescent

SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT: Dr. Marc Evans on Converting Data into Practice Dr Evans is a consultant diabetologist at the University Hospital of llandough in Cardiff, where he has been in post since 2003. He has a very active research interest, particularly in the fields of health economics, health outcomes, epidemiology and pharmacoepidemiology. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and abstracts across these fields and has also supported various HTA submissions for differing novel therapies across a variety of disease areas. He is currently editor in chief of Diabetes Therapy, a journal specifically focused on therapeutic issues in diabetes. #sama2024 #samaconference2024

Orthostatic hypotension (OH) has been understood as a manifestation of autonomic dysfunction, but OH is a common comorbidity of hypertension (HTN and defined as a sustained reduction in systolic blood pressure of at least 20mmHg or diastolic blood pressure of 10mmHg within 3 minutes of standing. Ophthopedia Update:Prospective registry-based external validation cohort analysis of dry eye disease subtype classification criteria: Dry eye disease is recognised to be a highly heterogeneous and multifactorial condition with a myriad of etiological drivers [1–3], and subtype classification evaluation is therefore critical for guiding tailored management strategies for individual patients in clinical practice [4–7]. Moreover, subtype classification markers of dry eye disease are also essential for the purposes of informing disease definition in epidemiology studies, and outcome measures in clinical trials [4,8–12]. However, to date, there is a lack of standardised approach in dry eye disease subtype classification criteria in the scientific literature [4]. #eye #Ophthalmology #CLAE
