It's common for new graduates to feel overwhelmed, often grappling with imposter syndrome. While honing your skills is essential, it's equally crucial to be aware of common pitfalls in the profession. Common Pitfalls for Physical Therapists: Gossiping: Gossip can be detrimental to a workplace's environment. It's always best to address concerns directly with your direct report to foster a transparent and open culture. Not Voicing Concerns: If there's an issue or concern, it's vital to communicate it. Open dialogue can prevent misunderstandings and promote a healthier work environment. Underbilling: Accurate billing is crucial. It's rare to find overbilling, but underbilling is a frequent issue. By billing correctly, we maintain the value of our services. Becoming Too Comfortable: The medical field is always evolving. Staying updated and continuously learning is the key to staying relevant and effective in your role. Risk of Burnout: Prioritize your well-being. It's essential to work for organizations that value your professional growth and personal well-being. Do you have insights or experiences to share about other potential pitfalls? We'd love to hear from you. Let's work together to ensure our community is well-prepared and informed.

✨‘I felt part of the solution’. A qualitative study about the interface between lived experience advocates, professionals and organisations in the field of persistent pain✨ 🌿The relationship between patient advocates and the organisations they help 💡Is conceptualised as ‘an unequal partnership’. 🌿Participants described positive and affirming experiences 💡With individual health professionals and research teams (Respect). 🌿This often occurred within a context of inflexible organisational policies 💡That presented barriers to participation 🌿 Including a lack of financial compensation and expectation to work to inflexible deadlines. 💡As a result, patient advocates could experience a lack of value attributed to 🌿Their experiences and voices (unmet needs from institutions). Clinical Supervisor/Outreach Director specializing in helping new therapists find their passions, building community connections and learning everything I can to lead from a feminist and liberation perspective
I’ve noticed that in our field, the opportunities for advancement often feel limited. Many of us find ourselves staying in direct care roles, providing therapy—and that’s it. I know some are content with this path, and I think it also contributes to burnout. While becoming a supervisor was a cool accomplishment, it didn’t reduce the overwhelming caseloads. Clinic Management or director roles offer a change, but opportunities are scarce and don’t address the diverse aspirations many of us have. Where are the advancement opportunities for those of us who are thought leaders, creatives, and activists, or for those who simply need a break from direct care? How can we use our unique talents to build community connections, creative marketing, engage in policy work, or sustain our careers if we can’t maintain a caseload of 25+ clients a week? These roles do exist but opportunities are scarce and are often filled outside the therapy world. Is private practice the answer for all of this? Personally, private practice didn’t provide what I needed to thrive—I crave more daily interaction, collaboration, and support than I could find on my own. What kind of therapy opportunity would you want? What would be your dream role in a therapy practice? #mentalhealth #burnout #freedom

Trauma-Informed Therapist | Clinical Supervisor | Group Private Practice Owner | Counselor Educator | Consultant, Trainer & Advocate for Culturally Responsive Mental Health Practices
Hello, Therapists on LinkedIn! 6,000+ followers! Thank you for being in community with me! I want to re-introduce myself to those newer to this space and my page... I create purpose-driven posts for therapists and professionals in the mental health and wellness space, including healers, social workers, licensed professional counselors, psychologists, coaches, graduate students, supervisees, private practice owners, clinical supervisors, and advocates (phew!)...with three key objectives... ⭐ Democratize information: I aim to create easily digestible content without overly using clinical jargon to spark conversations about sharing our professional experiences. You'll find career-related information for newly graduated therapists, those seeking supervisors or supervision, interviewing for graduate programs, and occasional job opportunities. Similarly, therapists and students often DM me, seeking suggestions and advice on navigating career-related issues with clients or supervisors. So, never hesitate to reach out! ⭐ De-stigmatize mental health topics: I share news articles, initiatives, or legislation that may impact our profession, along with resources to enhance our practice. I also enjoy highlighting the work of outstanding organizations and individuals contributing to making mental health more accessible. You'll often find me reposting, sharing, or celebrating others here! ⭐ Decolonize mental health practice: I offer specific suggestions, down to the quotes, for interactions with clients or with supervisors/supervisees that are trauma-informed and culturally responsive. I aim to embody a growth mindset here and create a positive and affirming space for discussion to exchange creative ideas. We learn best when we embrace diverse perspectives and don't always agree. But you knew that! 😉 Whatever brought you to my little space of the internet, thank you for being here! 💜 #mentalhealth #mentalhealtheducation #clinicalsueprvision #therapists
