Today, we spotlight a few nonprofits who focus on addressing child abuse in the United States 🇺🇸 while being acutely aware of how imperative the work they do is. Studies show that 1 in 7 children in the US has experienced child abuse and sadly the number have continued to grow. While inspiring organizations like; • Child Abuse Prevention Center (CAPC) • The Chadwick Center for Children and Families, CA • Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, TX • The CALL (Children of Arkansas Loved for a Lifetime) • Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches • CornerHouse • Wyoming Children's Trust Fund • Tennessee Children's Advocacy Centers • Our Kids, TN • KidSafe Collaborative, Tennessee • Memphis Child Advocacy Center • Palmer Home for Children • Blue Sky Bridge, Colorado play a crucial role in preventing and addressing child abuse, offering services ranging from advocacy and therapy to medical care and legal support, There's still much to do for the kids. In our weekly nonprofit research, this week we learned of the increasing funding gap the child abuse sector in the nonprofit ecosystem is currently facing. There are a lot of nonprofits who lack the funding to help more kids. RUOVA partners with these orgs to help them secure the funding to drive positive change. A Year of Impact: Reflecting on Isabel’s House As another year draws to a close, we at Isabel’s House are taking a moment to reflect on the incredible accomplishments we've achieved together. Thanks to the unwavering support of our dedicated volunteers, donors, and community partners, we've made significant strides towards our mission of preventing child abuse and neglect. Here are just a few highlights from 2023: 1) Increased reach: We expanded our services to protect and care for 224 children and their families— which is a 69% increase in children protected since last year. 2) Enhanced impact: We implemented new programs and initiatives that improved the lives of those we serve. These included the implementation of new trauma-informed training (MANDT), car seat safety certification of senior tenured team members, and we have cared for the greatest number of children at one time since before Covid. 3) Empowered community: We engaged over 100 volunteers who contributed over 500 hours of service. We also are moving to provide training and resources to help our volunteers develop their skills and knowledge. 4) Strengthened partnerships: We forged new partnerships with other organizations to amplify our impact and reach a wider audience. We are so grateful to everyone who has been a part of our journey this year! Hey folks! I need your help to wish my friends Blind Beginnings a sweet 16! Blind Beginnings was founded by Shawn Marsolais who encourages a limitless philosophy in all they do. "Limitless is about educating the public about the abilities and potential of children and youth who are blind or partially sighted. The idea that the only limitations that exist for these BC youth are the ones that society places on them is crucial to understand in order to fully embrace equity and inclusion in all aspects." Recently I was gifted the opportunity to spend time with two of their team members Rob Mineault and Lia Dicicco and it was incredible to see how their limitless philosophy is embedded in the essential and critical education programs and services they provide for children and youth in BC who are blind or partially sighted. If, like me, you don't have lived experience with being blind or partially sighted, then you and I need to educate ourselves on in how to create spaces that are welcome for folks who are. How we do that is by activating our learning to expand our understanding and knowledge to be better employers, colleagues, friends and allies. And before we get stuck in the "but where do we start" zone, we can skip directly to being activated in action as Blind Beginnings has ample ways to get our learning activated.
