Leader in early childhood. Professional practice systems development Educational Leaders Australia community of practice Editor: Our Conversations Journal Editor: The 8th Quality Area-EC Advocacy & Policy Writer Thinker
Educational Leaders are the curriculum and practice leaders in early learning services. This is a critically important position and is directly related to quality early learning for our children. Why then do so many Educational Leaders report that their time is often lost as they are required to act as room relief staff? Why do so many observe that their role and its potential impact is often poorly understood and is certainly underrated? If we are truly serious about our declarations on how important early learning is, surely we have to get serious about supporting and resourcing the Educational Leader role? Our work with Clint Independent School District highlights how important it is for principals to sit in the seat of being a coach AND being coached. As one recent The Wallace Foundation report put it: “Effective principals focus their work on feedback, coaching, and other instructional improvement work that is grounded in classroom observations and other data about teaching and learning.” Key actionable takeaways from our work developing principals' instructional leadership: + Attend professional learning on high-quality instructional materials and practice working with the materials and curriculum + Develop coaching skills and language to provide actionable instructional feedback for teachers + Practice coaching teachers while being observed by peers Learn more about our instructional leadership work: https://lnkd.in/d8GHUkid Explore the Wallace Report: https://lnkd.in/drGYzjWm

Addressing Conflict as a Leader. Addressing conflict can catalyze growth and continuous improvement, mainly when approached with a mindset geared toward collaboration and resolution. In my leadership role with our teachers, I’ve facilitated training, mentoring, and support that empowers teachers to address challenges openly and constructively. We foster a culture of transparency and accountability by creating spaces where teachers feel supported to discuss and resolve conflicts—whether they relate to course design, certification concerns, or resource allocation. This approach strengthens individual teaching practices and enhances the collective team’s ability to adapt and respond effectively to students’ needs. In providing consistent mentoring and encouraging open dialogue, we cultivate a school culture where conflicts are opportunities for growth, leading to a stronger, more unified instructional team that continuously improves and aligns with the district’s vision for student success. @GSUEdLead Georgia State University - Educational Leadership Program
